We had the good fortune of connecting with Vernon Barrett-Dozier Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vernon, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work life balance has changed over the course of my journey because I prioritize the need of recovering. It is important to not burn yourself out that can cause mental and physical exhaustion. I like to set a adequate work amount and once that is complete I relax and do something I love to do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I feel as though I work extremely hard, but I work smarter than anything else. I’ve become this way because I pride myself on being dependable, trustworthy and someone on the front lines getting it done. The journey is never easy and the challenges don’t get any easier. To overcome them you have to be fearless in the pursuit of your dream. The number 1 lesson I ha r learned is that life is an experience, don’t let negatives ones defeat you. I want to change the way food and the culinary world is viewed.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m all about good food! Dominics in Norcross, Food Terminal, Baldinos, Ponce on the Roof

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I gotta give it to my mom. She has always been the one I can bounce ideas off of and always has giving me support in the ups and downs of life.
