We had the good fortune of connecting with Vanessa Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vanessa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always been passionate about the unique bond between dogs and humans. Growing up, I immersed myself in books and dog training shows, often helping neighbors with their dogs, who would quickly ‘behave’ better around me. This passion deepened further when I volunteered at a local dog shelter. I noticed many families surrendering their dogs due to behavioral issues, and I realized that, with a little guidance, I could help keep these families together.

After moving to the U.S. from Germany, friends and family encouraged me to take my talent for working with dogs and helping people to the next level. Reading Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki was a turning point—it inspired me to take the leap and turn my passion into a career. As people returned to the office, shelters became overwhelmed with surrendered pets, and the demand for dog training grew. I saw this as the perfect time to fully dedicate myself to this mission.

Now, I get to do what I love every day—helping dogs and their families create harmonious relationships. It’s been the most rewarding journey of my life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Pup’s & Paws Dog Training is built on my deep passion for dogs and the belief that every dog deserves to live in harmony with their family. What sets us apart is our focus on creating customized, positive training solutions that are rooted in understanding and trust. I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients, helping them overcome challenges and strengthen their bonds with their dogs.

Starting my business wasn’t easy—there were obstacles, particularly in balancing the business side with the hands-on training. However, I learned to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth. One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the value of persistence and trust in the process. I’m excited to continue to serve the community and share my knowledge with dog lovers who want a better, more connected life with their pets. My brand is all about building trust, fostering communication, and creating lasting change for families and their dogs.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting Atlanta for a week, I’d craft the perfect itinerary blending adventure, nature, and culture. We’d kick things off with iconic spots like the Georgia Aquarium, Coca-Cola Museum, and Atlanta Botanical Gardens. As nature lovers, we’d hike Stone Mountain, McDaniel’s Park, and explore Lilburn City Park Trail. A trip to Helen would include Anna Ruby Falls and horseback riding. For food, we’d enjoy First Watch, Lazy Dog, and Stoney River Steakhouse. I’d also add Piedmont Park for its views, the BeltLine for art and dining, and Ponce City Market for shopping and panoramic city views. A visit to the Atlanta History Center or Martin Luther King Jr. National Park would be the perfect cultural touch!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to dedicate my Shoutout to several key figures who have supported and shaped my journey. First, my mom, who always encouraged me to follow my passion and do what I love. My incredible friends, who stood by me with their unwavering support and encouragement. My dog, Kiba—my best friend and inspiration—who has been the heart and soul of Pup’s & Paws. Lastly, Horst Horer of Euro Dogs, whose mentorship and guidance helped me grow into the dog trainer I am today. And to all my past and future clients of Pup’s & Paws—thank you for trusting me and allowing me to be part of your journey. Your stories inspire me every day!
