We had the good fortune of connecting with Trudy Zulu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trudy, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My balance has changed over time simply because my perception on balance has evolved.

I don’t believe in balance but in prioritizing. What is important to us changes with each passing season. I believe it’s important to identify what is important in each season, prioritize it by being present and fully invested. That has removed a lot of pressure from me trying to do too many things unnecessarily. Instead focusing only on what’s important

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Zapporrah is an international online clothing store, selling affordable chic clothing. It is everyday wear that caters to women of different shapes and sizes.

The business was birthed out of a conversation I had with my sister whilst visiting her in London (UK) We spoke about the difficulties of finding clothes that accommodate petite women, women such as myself who are slightly taller yet curvy with a small waist. We dreamt of an inclusive brand that catered for true authentic shapes and sizes.

In a world where the standards of beauty are changing and are more accepting of those who have been labeled different, we found opportunity to officially launch our brand in 2021.

We are not only excited about the collections we’ve begun to roll out but about giving our clients the physical experience of trying on our clothing. We will begin to make our clothing available locally and then roll out internationally so stay glued to our website and social media pages. For now you can purchase items online as we do ship worldwide.

Starting a clothing brand is no easy task, no one knows who you are or why they should believe in or buy your brand. However we are getting to a place of earning our clients trust in our ethos and product offering.

We also continue to rely on transparency, feedback, vigorous marketing and supporting initiatives within society that matter. We also work to ensure we produce trendy locally produced items.

Within the first six months of launch there was not even a single sale not even from a family member. What is natural to do is to give up, we would comfort ourselves in the knowing that we tried. But the truth is that nothing worth having comes easy but you have to work hard towards it. Creating a global brand is no easy task. We’ve constantly had to find inspiration in simple success stories like Albert Einstein who continued to refine his strategy. To get something you’ve never had before you must do something you’ve never done.We switched up the game and developed a new game plan. We continue to evolve and adapt and so far it’s working for us.

I want the world to look out for us because we are coming for everything that was said we can’t have. We are brand with a difference, graciously taking up space in the global market.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Cities, I know we’ll enough are Mpumalanga, Joburg and London.

I’m vouching for Mpumalanga in South Africa because it’s where I originate from. If you desire an African experience. Safaris, extraordinary views of nature, being in close proximity to wildlife and simply a place to exhale and leave renewed and refreshed then this is the place for you.

With breathtaking views of the Blyde river canyon, Gods window, plentiful safaris to choose from and being one with nature in hotels that offer outside showers, swimming round the waterfalls and waking up to the warmth of that orange golden sunrise and sunset.

Experience African villages as they share their culture in food, drink and festivities, ride with elephants and glide on the clouds and experience the sun up close with hot air ballooning.

I could go on and on, simply put, try South Africa

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out goes to No Ordinary Corporation and DSV for their belief and commitment towards empowering me and women like myself in business.
