We had the good fortune of connecting with Tristen King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tristen, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process of starting my own business is I wanted to do more with my life than work a standard job. Growing up I wanted to be a content creator on Youtube. I think that is part of what pushed me to wanting t0 learn about cameras. I grew up watching my dad taking pictures at events for the church I attend. October 2016, I borrowed his camera to take pictures at one of the events. After that night I knew I wanted a camera for photography. Fast forward to May 2017, my parents gave me my first camera. Since then I knew I wanted to do photography as a full time job. I spent my free time outside of working at a grocery store and attending college learning how to better my photography skills. I did my first paid photography job at the end of December 2019. A couple days after Christmas I took the money I had saved up and got from that job and went and purchased a new camera. Since then I have been running my own photography business. I ended landing in a friend group that is more like family to me. Thanks to them, I understood I could do photography as a full time business. September 15th 2021 was my last day at a job I worked at for 5 years. I have since then learned so much about growing my photography skills and business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a different photographer than most. Most photographers will pick an area and work in it. For example Wedding photographers mainly do weddings. I tend to do a broader approach to photography. I have done photography from weddings to wildlife, to sports. I am most proud about my style. The more I do photography the more I learn my style, it is different than most and it really shows me as a creative. To get where I am today was a lot of hard work and sacrificing my free time since I started. It was not easy, but nothing worth fighting for is easy. I overcame the challenges by having an amazing support group and knowing that I would not stop until I was living the dream I wanted. I have learned that any one can take a picture, but it takes some one who really knows how to use a camera to capture the emotion and story in a moment. I want the world to know that I am not better than other photographers. I grew up learning to be humble and thankful for the gift. That is what my photography skill is. It is a gift from God. I want the world to know never give up on your dream because if you work hard for it, anything is possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
That is a tough question, I would probably end up taking them to beautiful nature spots around the area like Sweet water creek. It is not in the city but I would definitely show them around The Castle at WildWood Gardens. For food would just depend on what area of Georgia, we are in. In my view the most interesting people to be around are creatives. As a creative, I try to take a different look on locations and pick out the beauty in simple places. My favorite places to visit are very nature oriented.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
On my walk of growing my skills as a photographer and growing my business there has been a lot of people who support me and what I do. Among that support I do want to shout out a close group of friends who are like family to me. This group pushes me to grow in my skill and business and we all work in the wedding industry. One of the members is my best friend, his name is Brad Henry. Brad is a freelance videographer who runs sPinning Prop Productions also know as spproduction. Me and Brad have only been friends for a year but he is more like a brother to me. He pushes me to grow as a creator and makes me want to go out and capture beautiful pictures. The next person in that group his Ryan Harville. Ryan is a free lance photographer as well. I actually did a work shop with Ryan before I went full time. Ryan is another friend who I would consider a brother. I also look up to Ryan as a photographer because he was one of first full time photographers who offered me advice in my own business. The finale member of the group is a venue owner. Her name is Jessy Devere, she is one of the owners of The Castle at WildWood Gardens wedding venue. Jessy pushes me as a photographer, she also pushes my business in her own. I love getting to shoot at The Castle and it is basically my second home. I spend my free time hanging out with the people in this group at The Castle. We are a family and I would not be where I am with out them.
