We had the good fortune of connecting with TracyLynn Conner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TracyLynn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have always known that I wanted to teach music one on one. I worked for other businesses but always felt like I was limited to their curriculum. I wanted the freedom to teach each student in their learning style. I started branching out on my own and started believing that I had something unique to offer.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
With owning my own business, I am able to audition and perform for myself as well. It definitely takes a lot of careful scheduling and sometimes a lack of sleep, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. It has been great that my students can come see their teacher perform and do what they want to be doing. If I had a traditional job, I wouldn’t have the flexibility to perform as well as teach. It has also given me the compassion to understand how they feel on their own auditions.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am blessed to have the most amazing parents in the world. To them, it would have made a lot more sense to have a classroom teacher job complete with 401k and benefits. But as they saw how happy it made me to live this life I love, they understood and fully supported me. They both can now see that this was what my life was meant to be. I also have to give a shout out to my amazing students. They make my job so much fun and rewarding. I really have the most remarkable students!
