We had the good fortune of connecting with Tom Flies and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tom, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Every step you take in uncharted territory is a risk. I’d like to think I’ve taken risks almost every single time I was faced with a choice or decision I had to make in regards to going up a level in my career. I always revert back to a J.Cole line from his ‘2014 Forest Hills Drive’ album that keeps me aligned with all the decisions I make. You cannot be afraid to go out on a limb against everything you know, gotta be comfortable with living in the dark not knowing what could come with it but living in faith as well. I’m still taking risks as it stands today and that’s probably not gonna change throughout the rest of the way. If you aren’t making mistakes, you aren’t making decisions!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m most proud of being the representation for the creatives alike in my city. One of my biggest motivators is being the figure in my city that will lend a helping hand to literally everyone that needs it. I’ve positioned myself as that and garnered the respect from my city. It definitely wasn’t easy but nothing worth having is gonna come easy. There’s gonna be times you question your own sanity but that’s gonna help define your passion for it. The real challenges I’ve faced was trying to prove to everyone I was exactly the person I was telling them I was gonna be years prior, foresight. I just want the world to know i made a vow to myself that I’m gonna keep working, elevating until there’s literally nothing else for me to accomplish so I plan on being here for a while.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not a big party “on the scene” type of guy so my definition of fun would probably be an arcade, possibly go bowling and nothing I love more than to do escape rooms. Brunch at Green Eggs Cafe is a definite.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I wanna shoutout everyone that has had a hand in helping me along the way! God, Mom, Naacara, Deja, Damona, Big Fendi, Fee, Matt, Kayon, Trey, Rell, Dave Mays, Boosie, Gunna
