We had the good fortune of connecting with The Vegan Social and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi The Vegan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Vegan events are random and sporadic, so we decided to bring some consistency. We didn’t just want another vegan market; we wanted a spot where folks can really vibe. Think of it as “a place where we can kick it.” Atlanta’s vegan community is strong, and we’re here to harness that energy.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The Vegan Social, Atlanta’s premier vegan night market, is revolutionizing the way we think about health, community, and lifestyle in Atlanta. Every Wednesday, this vibrant event gathers diverse vegan vendors to celebrate plant-based living in one of Atlanta’s food deserts, providing much-needed access to healthy, delicious food options.
Hosted by the renowned vegan rapper and influencer Grey, The Vegan Social is more than just a market; it’s a movement. Grey, known for his viral “Vegan Thanksgiving” freestyle, brings his unique blend of Hip Hop and activism to the event, creating an atmosphere that’s both educational, entertaining, and social.
The Vegan Social is addressing critical issues in our community by providing a platform for local vendors and encouraging healthier eating habits. With a growing interest in plant-based diets among Black people and the Hip Hop community, this event is a testament to the shifting cultural tides towards healthier lifestyles. African Americans are almost three times as likely to be vegan than white Americans.
Each week, attendees can explore new vegan delicacies, and innovative products, and connect with like-minded individuals. The event’s success is evident in its rapid growth and the enthusiastic support from the community.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
First, we would go to the Vegan Social, every Wednesday evening.
Then, I would take them to Stir House in Downtown Atlanta.
Then, Soul Vegetarian in the West End.
Next, Tassali’s in the West End.
Then, Plantbaed Cafe in Vinings.
Finally, Lov’n It Live in East Point.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Grey, the vegan rapper
Nyemay, the creator of the Veggie Taste, Atlanta’s largest outdoor vegan festival
Traci, the founder of the Black Vegetarian Society of Georgia
