We had the good fortune of connecting with Tevin R. Acklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tevin R., what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started The Silent Bestman as a way to commune with gentlemen as they prepare to get married. It’s easy to get dressed, stand at the altar, and say what you are told to say, but it takes a lot more to be involved and active in the wedding process. Often times men don’t feel like they have a voice in the matter and I am here to show them that they do!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I design and manufacture fine garments for men and women! The way to be spoken to begins in how you dress. I took a love I have for tailoring and fashion, mixed it with my hospitality background and education and here we are. I am super excited to be a groom’s concierge for my own brand, a production manager for Irene Tyndale Weddings & Events, and a clothier with my big brother at P-Squared Custom Clothiers! My life has allowed me to work in spaces where I see people I truly love, interact and share with people I don’t know, and do see colors in ways that most people don’t think about. It’s never easy, especially right now, I am busy and have a lot of plans in motion to see all my people and businesses grow. I have learned that being yourself no matter who believes what is vital, taking care of your mental health as to be a priority, and moving when God you a sign is paramount. I need people to know that I work for and am a black brand. I take joy in finally being able to say that wholeheartedly and with vigor. I would love it if past, current, and future clients take this journey with me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Disclaimer: Thursdays – Sundays are reserved for weddings and events (company policy). So let’s start with food and drinks at one of the restaurants in the Buckhead Restaurant Group Monday night. There are always beautiful faces, interesting conversations, and good energy. I work all types of hours throughout the week, so he is going to visit friends throughout the day and I am probably going to meet him somewhere in the evening. Tuesdays are tacos and tequila at a number of places trying to find somewhere to go. Wednesday is ladies’ night at Cigar City Club so we will be there all night. Thursday I am probably prepping for a wedding so he is at work with me if he chooses, a game at the Battery, and Burn by Rocky Patel. Friday, he belongs to the next friend and they can figure out where I need to meet them for the rest of the weekend.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that I have to thank! Acknowledging The Father is first and foremost as he molds, strengthens, and is my true north when I don’t have direction. Additionally, he has put so many supportive people in my path! I have to thank my mother and sister for their love and support throughout my process. Irene Tyndale and Rachele Finley my leading ladies and partners in the event world. My mentor, friend, and big brother Kristian Smith at The Faith Community for his spiritual, personal, and professional guidance in my life. Stefan Dennis for his recommendation and continued challenging me to be better. B4L has been a solid and welcome addition to my life and this is getting way too long. I will send everyone I didn’t mention gifts.
