We had the good fortune of connecting with Terence Brandt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terence, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I always keep the big picture in mind. I understand that on this journey, there are going to be hardships and roadblocks, but I keep in mind the relationships I want to have and the vision I have for my life. Most importantly, I think about how bad I want it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love the music I create and the people I am creating it with! I believe what sets me apart is my unique take on how I like drums to sound when I produce. Also, how I like to express emotions through a songs arrangement. It definitely wasn’t easy getting to this point in my profession. It took long nights away from home, low pay, and sometimes even no pay. I believed the experience I learned through those years is unmatched. I had to learn to be patient and keep the bigger picture in mind, and the vision got clearer everyday. I want the world to know, if you have a dream you can reach it by staying focused and driven. Consistency was and still is key when it comes to my story.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was coming into town, we would definitely have to start off the trip with Hattie B’s! Specifically, the location in Midtown, so we can skip over to “The Works” for drinks. We also would have to have a night at the Battery during a home game. Other locations such as Inman Park, the Belt Line, the Avalon, and Ponce City Market would certainly be on the list too. Of course, it’s a must, to stop by the legendary Tree Sound Studios, so my best friend can see what it is I do best.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
One person and an organization come to mind. I’m such a mama’s boy, so first has to be my mother. She has guided me and pushed me into the position I’m in today. She’s always made sure that I had the resources and connections I needed to make the first pivotal stems in starting my music career. The second would have to be Cuyahoga Community Collage (Tri-C). The years I spent there shaped my character and skill set to be able to do what I do today.
