We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Ryan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Work life balance for me is very important being that I still work full time as a mechanic at Delta Airlines in Atlanta. Making sure I have valuable time with my family in between both work and music can be hard to juggle at times. Music for me began 10 or more years ago as a hobby, playing open mic nights and local shows with friends. It was an Avenue that was new and exciting and one I hadn’t been down before. Over time that love and passion for music began to really grow into something that couldn’t be ignored. So, I started writing songs and eventually got up the nerves to play a couple live at local shows. As time progressed and I began meeting more and more people those shows started to fill the calendar. Then next thing I know I found myself in the studio recording an album. Life was beginning to move very quickly and it was then I realized that there are times when it is important to say no to a show in order to make time for family. Being a father to my daughter Harper and Husband to my wife Tiffany it’s very important that we balance our schedules in order to have that special family time. Fortunately, Harper & Tiffany are very supportive and are able to come to a lot of shows and I get to share that experience with them. Looking forward, some challenges that we will have to balance as the music continues to grow will be how much time I spend in Nashville writing, networking, as well as setting aside some studio time as I work on my next album.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a singer / songwriter the most gratifying part in my opinion is writing something that is personal in regards to my life and then having it touch someone or move them because they experienced a similar moment or event in their life. My goal when writing a song is to have lines embedded within the song that you might not pick up on the first time you listen but over several listens you’ll pick up on what I personally was saying. I believe that’s a neat way to write and I enjoy finding those moments in songs. Professionally this is a secondary venture (evenings & weekend job) that we’re working on making into a full time gig. As I’ve began writing and releasing music and playing live across Georgia it’s been nice to see the growth happening as you working towards a goal. I released my 2nd EP “Beach Chairs & Bar Tabs” this summer and currently have my song “Paparazzi” featuring on stations in Atlanta and Macon 94.9 & 96.5 The Bulls Backyard Country Show. So that’s been pretty cool to turn on the radio on Sundays and hear you own music. Which shows the importance of having a vision and working hard towards it.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely try to go catch a Braves game and maybe hit up some bars in the Battery. PBR is my favorite bar in the Battery so we’d definitely end up there.
The next day we would have to go to midtown hit Top Golf, grab a bite at Six Feet Under Pub & FishHouse, and go to the Painted Pin for drinks and games.
Last day grab lunch at the Vortex.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and friends have always been extremely supportive but it was my wife Tiffany who pushed me to go to the studio to record some songs that I had written and been playing live for a few years. She bought the studio time and surprised me with it as a Valentines Day gift. Her reasoning for doing so was “I bought this session because I want you to have these songs produced and I know that you on your own probably wouldn’t have set aside time to do so!” Which she was right I probably wouldn’t have taken my songs to studio if it wasn’t for her.
