We had the good fortune of connecting with Tatenda Abel Chabvonga and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tatenda Abel, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I was born musically gifted and I honestly felt like me having to pursue my dreams and focus more on my gift to become the Artist and Producer I am today. I’m proud to say that I’m still growing and learning as I progress with my career because I feel like me having to express myself through art and being creative is what makes me who I am a person
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love making music that speaks about random topics honestly, it could be anything. I love thinking outside the box and really exploring whatever comes into mind. It can be me having a conversation/debate with my friends about the entertainment industry as is, a certain situation I’ve been through or maybe another individual within my circle. It really varies with whatever topic I come up with in order for me to bring it into life. From the time I started recording music back in high school I’d always network with a lot of artists and producers that inspired me to keep going and always encouraged me to stay focused and keep my head high. Throughout the years I’ve noticed how much of a hassle it is to work with different artists and producers because as creatives our opinions are subjective according to how we’d want to do something if given the chance and I’d say that I’ve learnt from that and told myself to be more open about my thoughts and feelings towards every single song I come across and also take notes from that too so I can adapt and create better music. I love the fact that I’ve been independent and really having enough room to create music that I fell in love with as I progressed with my career
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly I haven’t been that much of a person who goes out like that even if its with my friends or not, but if I was to do so I’d say I’d go to this event called “Fiesta Fiesta” that’s always being hosted on a monthly basis and I’d say its really a great event to go to if you’re looking for the best time ever. There are two other places called “Pabloz” and “Evitro” and I must say those two are really a vibe if you’re down to have a great time
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to say shout-out quite a lot of people that really did contribute to my growth. The likes of OCD (Off Center Department), Allied Kings, Donne Jovi and quite a number of artists I’ve worked with over the years.
