We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammy Gormley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tammy, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was fortunate to be raised by my aunt and uncle in a rural area of St. Charles, Missouri, from the age of two. While they provided stability, my upbringing was marked by dysfunction, driven largely by the difficult choices and chaotic circumstances surrounding my birth parents and extended family. These experiences pushed me to grow up quickly, leading me to move out for the first time at 14 and graduate high school early to be on my own. Despite these challenges, I hold no resentment. I’ve surrounded myself with good people and made a conscious decision to break away from those family dynamics. I’m a positive person, and I don’t use my past as an excuse for any bad choices. Instead, I’ve embraced those experiences as lessons that have strengthened me mentally and physically, giving me the drive to figure things out on my own. That determination became the foundation of my business, where I poured my energy into hard work, self-education, and ensuring that every client feels satisfied and cared for.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m incredibly grateful for how my business began. It all started as a dream between my friend Shelley and me, launching a small decorating company focused on repurposing décor and decorating homes. At the time, we thought it would remain more of a hobby. However, a few opportunities came our way, and those early projects led to referrals. About a year after we started, Shelley relocated to Tampa with her family, and I continued the business on my own. That’s when I realized my true passion was in design and remodeling, which inspired me to shift the company’s focus from decorating to home renovations.
It was both exciting and terrifying to take that leap, but I went for it. Thanks to word of mouth and referrals, Timber & Suede (T & S) has stayed consistently booked with projects. Of course, it hasn’t always been easy. There are constant challenges in remodeling, and there are days when it feels overwhelming. But the incredible clients, the relationships I’ve built with contractors and vendors, and the satisfaction of seeing the transformation of each project make it all worthwhile. I’m deeply thankful for every client who has trusted me with their home, and I’m proud of how far T & S has come
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting North Georgia, we’d start the week with a relaxing night at home. I’d prepare some delicious appetizers, sip on wine, and spend the evening on the porch, catching up while taking in the beauty of the North Georgia trees and mountains. My best friend wouldn’t need a lot of entertainment; she’d want to spend time with me and my family. We would do things like golf cart rides, walks in the neighborhood, and watch movies while continuously talking. My husband is a great cook, and she would be looking forward to some of his yummy meals.
Throughout the week, we’d spend time on the boat at Lake Lanier, soaking up the sun and the peaceful atmosphere, and if it were winter, we might hike in the Georgia Mountains. We’d visit some beautiful wineries in the Georgia mountains for wine tasting. I’d also take her to local shopping and dining spots, like Downtown Alpharetta, Halcyon, NoFo, and City Center. and if there were any good concerts, we’d check out Ameris Bank Amphitheater or enjoy a local outdoor concert in Downtown Gainesville.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe so much of my success to the incredible people who have supported me along the way. My family is my world, and I wouldn’t be where I am without them—my husband Dan, my daughter Jade, my son-in-law Garrett, my son Zeke, and my two grandkids, Landon and Payton, who are my heart. Their love, encouragement, and belief in me have been unwavering. I also want to recognize my husband’s family and my friends, who have been my rock through both the highs and lows, past and present. Their presence in my life has given me the strength and perspective I’ve needed to keep pushing forward
