We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamika Shaunta’e Howard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamika Shaunta’e, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Creativeness has always been a part of who I am. From the age of 2 my mom can tell the story of me seeing a Charmin commercial and reenacting it out. It costs her a whole bag of toilet tissue but she could only laugh. I believe God blessed me with a beautiful imagination from birth and it just began to manifest within me the older I got. I started off writing music, poetry, and even started to explore cooking in my pre-teens to finally finding my real passion in writing books. Creating things and coming up with new ideas is just something I’m natural at. I consider myself to have a very unique mind and nobody else possesses it. There are no limits for me. My mind is always cooking up something new and special to present.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love to write. Im the author of 6 books. For The Love Of The Hustle 1, 2, and 3. Fucket List, Your Trash Is His Treasure, The Gates,, and I’m working on my 7th Kryptonite. Being an author has helped me expand my creativity into a full brand.. I now have an apparel line, and also a podcast.. I’m looking to bring my writing to film. It has opened up a whole new world for me.
What sets me apart is you can follow as you are reading almost like your are watching a movie it self. My writing usually gets the readers emotions involved. I’m happy to say that I have readers who had never picked up a book before but now have a love for it and I believe they will continue to. I also don’t put myself in a box of one genre and I’d like to believe that sets me apart.
As far as my clothing I hope I’ve created a brand everyone can be proud to wear and represent. We are all out here trying to be our highest selves in whatever job we are in. I’m still working on getting the podcast to the level I envision and that’s my current project.
In order to succeed, you have to take risks. You have to jump and know that the parachute will open or even if you do fall, just get back up. Nothing beats a failure but a try. Surround yourself with genuine people and also prepare to lose some as you climb the ladder of success. Everyone is not meant to go. Try your best to find a mentor who has been where you are. Make your support group a winning team.. They should be able inspire and encourage you and vice versa.
If there are no challenges I’d say something is wrong. Expect challenges and hurdles because nothing worth it comes easy. The challenges and struggles are there to build you and give you a stronger character. They will help you in facing your next giants.
Believe in YOU. If you are the only one standing by your brand, that alone is enough. That’s the number one lesson I’ve learned on my path. 2nd lesson I’ve learned is that words are power. You can easily speak your failure and I’ve seen so many people do so. Affirmations are very important to me and that’s something I’ve recently learned to do. It’s amazing how changing your language can change everything.
What I want people to know about my brand is, it comes from hard work and belief. I stand behind it 100 percent. It was created with thought and care and that will continue.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout and dedication goes to my Mom, Sisters, and Boss Friends. They have seen me at my worst and my best. Right or wrong they are forever supporting me and have my back and what they give me and see in me is so rare. I took it for granted at once. I just want them to know they are highly appreciated and nobody but God has my back more than them.
