Meet Tamika Middleton | Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamika Middleton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamika, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
So, I started my business back in 2017. I originally wanted to just do an urban clothing line, hence my business name Urban Edge, but that wasn’t really me and I just didn’t put much effort into it. I love creating, drawing and helping others so the customization side came about when my husband threw out there – helping others with their branding and things like that. So, I saw it as a way to still be creative but assisting others with ways to promote their brand/business.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I have a customization and design company that assists business owners with their branding needs. I look to assist entrepreneurs and business owners with creating unique marketing ideas and materials to bring more awareness to their brand. We offer an array of services that can benefit any business owner, from logo design, web design assist, custom artwork, flyer design, printed apparel and accessories, wall/vehicle decals and so much more. So, you can say we’re sort of a one-stop shop (lol). Starting this business back in 2017 I can honestly say that it hasn’t been an easy road. From the late-night tears, wanting to just give up on the business altogether. I have had to learn to have a lot of patience and just being able to trust the process along way. Being consistent and coming out of my comfort zone has allowed me to grow my customer base that have been pretty loyal throughout the years. I also had to learn to take breaks away from my business so that I can regroup and just for my mental health overall. Just running a business especially by yourself it can really take a toll on you.
Also, as a service provider you just have to learn that everyone is not meant to be your customer. I’ve had to remove myself from a few relationships because they just weren’t for me. You know when someone thinks they can speak to you any type of way or trying to get over on you because you’re just starting out. Well let’s just say this small business owner has learned her worth!
I want the world to know that Urban Edge Printing & Design Co. that is not just here to assist with branding needs, we’re here to build long lasting relationships with other entrepreneurs and business owners. We love to see everyone winning.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’ll start our days at some cute brunch spots throughout the city. To name a few The Rooftop in NW, DC, Milk & Honey and Georgia Brown’s. Walk off some of the food we can head downtown to visit some of the popular museums and monuments. Then nothing better than a little spree right over in Georgetown or we can shoot across the Woodrow Wilson and visit Tysons. I’m really a homebody and my girls know I don’t mind cooking and hosting at my home and popping a glass of wine and chilling in my movie room.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be here without the support of my husband Zebedee believing in my creativity the entire way. It can be discouraging sometimes but with his support and motivation I continue to thrive and push forward with the business. I would also like to thank my stylist Sacona Graham, everyone may know her as CMarie Styles. She has also been big encouragement when it comes to my business and just putting myself out there. My mom Barbara and my kids Anaya, Zariya and Taylor my biggest cheerleaders. Oh yes and I can’t forget my sissy pooh Talisha with all our talks and just holding each other accountable. Last but not least every person that has supported my business, sent me referral, liked and shared my work I really appreciate you all.
