We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Gammon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamara, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
I believe that being PREPARED is the best thing I have ever done for growing my business. Many people will tell you not to hold on to inventory and not to have too many items to sell. Well, I proved them wrong. Because of “inventory” I was able to place my art work and designs in 13 different locations throughout the United States and the Caribbean. Investing in my brand meant literally investing every cent I had to launch my newest line in the middle of the pandemic.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The heights by great men reached and kept were not attained by sudden flight, but they, while their companions slept, were toiling upward in the night.”- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Over the last 10 years I have been working tirelessly behind the scenes creating and developing my brand. As a former educator and C.O.O, my journey looked very different 20 years ago.

My success did not happen over night. 10 years ago in the hall of our local church I designed my first dress hand painted bags and shirts. Fast forward to 5 years ago I decided to become a professional artist and designer, 4 years ago, I left my job as COO and the rest is now “HerStory”.

Three Dream Designs is a collection livable, wearable and edible art. We create an “Experience” for clients. Drawing from my corporate and training background, I have created a training series- “Talk with Tamara”. This training series allows companies to diversify their “Lunch and Learn” as I paint live in person or virtually. I discuss HR related topics such as, but not limited to : Succession Planning, Strategic Planning , Human Capital etc.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends and clients come into town, I would have them stay at the ALOFT hotel in Downtown Atlanta. We would then go for amazing Jamaican food at Royal Caribbean in Stone Mountain. Heading to the South side we would head to McDonough to some of my favorite places, Three Chics on the Square, The Georgian Gallery and Grits.

To close out our first day, we would head to Locust Grove to visit Olive in a Bottle and My Bird Song Books.

Day 2:

Let’s head North today-we would go to West Elm in Avalon. Avalon offers so much more than most people know.

Day 3: Visit our favorite resort, Misty Pond Resort.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Recognizing my sons and parents for all they have done to support me during this journey. My aunt Eulette, my business coach, Sandra-90 day wins and my dear friend, Sheree, Guru Girl top the list as my support system. Without these individuals my life and business would not be what you see today.
