We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamara Abrosimova and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tamara, why did you pursue a creative career?
Ever since I was a kid and watched the first Harry Potter movie, I wanted to be a part of the world where I could be anyone, anywhere and anyWHEN. Like every kid and some adults I tend to have a crazy imagination where logic doesn’t necessarily exist and anything is possible.
I wanted to pursue acting, because I had the freedom to be anyone besides myself and I think it’s super fun to portray someone new every week during my self-tapes and various gigs.
For example, very recently I portrayed a veteran assassin who was teaching her daughter how to be a spy. The film is called “Code 13” and I was nominated for “Best Actress”.
Next week I did a short film where I was a bitchy college girl who was also a racist. That was a super fun role, because I am the complete opposite person in real life,
Any time I get an audition to play someone new, that’s my chance to show off my skills and my only responsibility is to do justice for that character. And hopefully a chance of getting booked.
Acting is fun, you don’t necessarily have to have a degree to become a professional actor and you get a chance to meet and learn from other actors.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m still somewhat new to the industry, so I have to hustle to catch up with actors who’ve been in the film industry for 10+ years. Unique thing about me is that I am of Ukrainian and Russian descent, and there are not a lot of us in film industry.
I’m single, so I have a lot of time on my hands to learn and master new skills. Just this year I’ve been learning sword and knife fighting thanks to a good friend of mine, Christopher. I’ve also attended Atlanta stunt driving school, which teaches you how to drift, how to be a stunt driver and you will feel like you’re a part of “Fast & Furious” franchise.
I love shooting guns, doing some archery, learning Italian and writing. I enjoy interviewing other actors and hearing about their personal journey. I crave travel and the goal is to visit all 50 states by the end of 2023. So far it’s 21, so I have ways to go.
Acting journey hasn’t been easy. When I started pursuing acting professionally I lived in a trailer home that was destroyed during a hurricane back in 2019. Since then I went from one friend’s couch to another. Living situation changed in a best way, the more gigs I booked and the more people I’ve met.
I’ve been dealing with haters since Day One, dealing with rejection, having low-esteem, thinking I wasn’t good enough… Obviously, that mentality changed and self-help books helped a lot! I would highly recommend every actor out there to go and buy one.
I am really proud of booking my first co-star in the show “Killing IT” with Craig Robinson and Scott McArthur who are both working actors. It will premiere in April 2022 on Universal Television.
The lessons I’ve learned so far is this and it will sound cliche, but NEVER GIVE UP. No matter the circumstances, no matter where you come from or how the world perceives you. Do not stop! Marketing yourself is a great way for people, including casting directors to get to know you and NOTICE you. Networking does wonders! Learning how to be comfortable when you’re uncomfortable.
I want the world to know that I work hard, but also smart to get where I want to be. I try to work harder than everybody else. When I see someone hustling their ass off, I hustle harder. I take acting classes from working actors, I practice my self-tape skills even when I don’t have an audition. I apply for every feature film and for every role that seems interesting to me, that portrays my brand and the one that, of course, pays 🙂
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The first place I would take my friend to is Five Points in Atlanta. There are so many local and quirky shops that you have to be there for at least a couple of hours to see everything. Locals and tourists go there. There’s also a comedy club and local comedians perform there.
Recently I saw Steve Martin and Martin Short perform at The Fox Theatre and it was a trip of a lifetime! The performances were hilarious, and the theatre was absolutely gorgeous! It is the type of theatre to which you HAVE to dress up for. It is very fancy and you see various plays and shows there. There’s also a bar and when you take a set and look up, you’ll see stars. You get distracted by all the fun decor of the theatre, and every performance takes your breath away.
Atlanta is a great city to visit and it will take at least few days to see the coolest spots
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
