We had the good fortune of connecting with Talaina Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Talaina, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My sister was the founder of Chosen Bath & Body Inc. she started the business after her chemotherapy. Throughout the start of the business, I was a freshman in college studying natural sciences, my sister loved and encouraged my interest in science. She envisioned us with a natural products store for people seeking holistic skincare and wellness products. Tragedy struck in April 2018 and Audia became an angel. Three years later my mother and I were cleaning her cabinets to her place and we discovered a lot of butters, oils, and essential oils. That day I decided to continue my sister’s legacy and realized it could help me expand my knowledge with my now biomedical science major.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently, I work for Access and Accommodations at Georgia State University. I’ve worked for this department for three years and it has helped me understand human life. Many students have mental health and/or physical disabilities and I’ve gained insight into these ongoing issues in society. I’ve invested time to research holistic healing mechanisms. This research has helped heal my issues as well as give students advice about self-care. Doing this has been a good outlet for me to stay on track with my health mentally and physically. Problems I’ve faced at my job are letting students and my department know I am human and a student. I have limitations and down days where I have no energy in being overly empathic to the people around me. On those days I close my office door and get my work done till I go home. I am working on a degree to get into medical school. I’m striving hard so I can get into medical schools. My passion in life is to heal past & future generations, my family, and society in any way I can this lifetime. I believe everyone should look into healing in whatever makes them comfortable but I quote to my closest friends and family “attached to nothing & connected to everything” this quote allows me to not take things personally and keep striving to keep a birds-eye view of the world.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am an outdoorsy person and most of my friends are too. If my best friend was visiting I would take them to my favorite hiking spots such as Palisades Trail, Stone Mountain & Cochran Shoals. I personally try to stay from meat so I would take them to my favorite vegan places which include Scarlett V which is a New Orleans Based Vegan Food Truck, Plant-Based Pizzeria they have a great variety of food other than pizza and you just pick it up. I love breakfast food, I would take them to Egg Harbor Cafe for brunch to enjoy mimosas and French toast. For a late-night I would take them to my Cru Hemp Lounge, I enjoy the vibes there and I know they would too. I am a sucker for drive inn movies I would definitely take to see the latest movie at Starlight Drive-In Theatre.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my family for supporting me while I healed from my sister’s death. They have been understanding and supportive while I continue my studies and making the decision to relaunch Chosen Bath & Body Inc.. They have given me a place to work on my products and books and other materials to expand my creative endeavors.
