We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Wallace and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sydney, what principle do you value most?
In my life, the principles of faith, commitment and loyalty matters most to me. When it comes to faith, a lot of times people think that you have to see it to believe it; but actually you must believe it first to be able to see it. We are all souls and spirits with a physical body and the earth has it’s own heartbeat that is surrounded by an electromagnetic field. Our spirit is electricity and our souls are magnetism; hence we emit frequencies and vibrations that are sought out into the universe and manifested in the physical. Furthermore, whatever we think and believe regardless if it’s negative or positive will come to pass. This is why it is so imperative to be able to control your thoughts and speak positive things over your life as well as having the faith that you can do anything that you put your mind to. Commitment is also a big value to me because you have to be 100% invested in whatever it is you want to accomplish. You can’t put in 30% and expect to get 100% back. That’s just life in general. When you commit to something whether it’s a relationship, a job, a goal, the effort in which you put forth will contribute to the success or the failure of what you are seeking to accomplish. Commitment also means that when you face adversity, you don’t get discouraged and give up. A lot of times, the adversity is there to teach you a lesson and mature you in your walk of life. If you stay the course and persevere while keeping the faith, you will be happy that you committed to achieving your goal in the end. Hard work always pays off one way or the other. Lastly, loyalty is another big principle that is imperative to me. I am very family oriented and have a big family on both sides, so it was embedded into our childhood values at a young age to stick together and always be there for your family through the ups and downs. Loyalty is something that can not be bought and a lot of times is what holds people together. For me loyalty is important because, I know my heart and intentions are pure and I will never abandon people who have been by my side through the tough times, and who have always believed in me regardless of my position in life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a professional basketball player and it was always my dream to play professional basketball since I was a little girl. I have been playing basketball since I have been able to walk and I had a natural talent and gift for the game very early on. I give credit to my father for recognizing this talent and getting me involved with the game. I had a decorated high school career scoring over 2000 points and was the top player in the state going into college. I went to Georgia Tech on a full ride scholarship and became a member of the 1000th career point club whilst breaking and setting some records during the 4 years that I attended. Then adversity hit and my road to becoming a professional was not easy . My senior year while scoring my 1000th point, I tore my ACL and was denied my red shirt waiver to reclaim my season. After rehabilitating and working hard to get back in the best physical condition possible, I signed with the Minnesota Lynx in 2016 and played in my first two WNBA games. Again, I reached another season of adversity because my dreams were not accomplished just yet. I was very young and did not have enough professional experience and I got cut from the team. However basketball was not over. I went overseas and started my career in Switzerland, later playing in France and then Romania. This was not an easy road either because I had some issues with different agents, stagnancy in the market and it seemed I was always getting left out. I didn’t give up just yet. I finally got a great deal to play in Finland in the 2018/19 season. I even broke the all time scoring record of mens and women’s basketball in Finland by scoring 54 points. I was having a historic career. Then again, another major bump in the road. I tore my other ACL & my season ended early. Through it all, even though I couldn’t see the end result at the time, I still kept the faith because I knew deep down inside that everything at that time was happening in divine timing. I missed the whole 2019/2020 season, but Covid-19 broke out & put everything on pause anyways, so the virus played a positive in my own personal experience. It really allowed me time to find myself and realize what was important. I was able to recover 100% from my injury and take much needed time off for my body. During this process I explored my other talent and passion in music and started recording. My peers and family members and locals supported me throughout and could tell I had a natural gift for music as well. Fast forward to today, I just finished my season in Poland as the leagues leading scorer and I performed so well I got signed by the Connecticut Sun to give my WNBA career another shot. I thank the journey and the pain that taught me about never giving up and that everything truly does happen for a reason!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a local in the Atlanta area, there is almost any and everything to do while in the city. Personally, I would take them to midtown to explore the nightlife, clubs and different well known restaurants such as the Atlanta Fish Market & Thumbs Up or Cheetah Lounge. Ponce City Market and Atlantic station is also on the rise with different events and activities that take place during different times of the year.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shout out to my family and the God within me. My family for always supporting me through the highs and lows & the God within me for being able to rise above my obstacles and not lose hindsight of my intentions or dreams. I had to go within myself and change the way I approached and looked at life. Once I accepted things for what they were and started speaking positivity and thinking positive thoughts my life manifested exactly in the way which I imagined.
