We had the good fortune of connecting with Steven Wolgamott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Steven, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
At ProRider West Georgia, we’re passionate about helping the motorcycle community stay safer on the road. While motorcycles make up only about 1% of all registered vehicles in Georgia, they account for roughly 13% to 18% of roadway fatalities. That gap is exactly why we do what we do.

Our mission is simple: to reduce the number of injuries and lives lost each year by providing high-quality training that’s accessible, practical, and easy for every rider to understand, whether they’re just starting out or have years of experience.

I’ve been a police motorcycle officer since 2019, and for years I wanted to bring the skills I learned in motor school to the public. I hesitated at first because of the unknowns. In 2024, I became a police motorcycle instructor in the state of Georgia, and that experience showed me that teaching riders to be safer and more effective on their motorcycles isn’t nearly as difficult or intimidating as I once thought.

Although we’re a newer program in the area, we’ve already heard several success stories from riders who have taken what they learned in our classes and used it to stay safe and avoid injury. Those stories are what make this work so rewarding.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started riding motorcycles in 2018 and quickly fell in love with it. The following year, I became a police motorcycle officer, which pushed me to elevate my skills and showed me firsthand what high-quality training can do for the average rider.

For a long time, I wanted to get into teaching, but I wasn’t sure where to start, or if I was even qualified. I put that idea on the back burner for about five years before finally deciding to attend police motorcycle instructor school. That experience showed me not only that I could teach, but that I was actually pretty good at it.

In 2024, I made the decision to start my own training program. It took until 2025 to determine exactly which curriculum I wanted to offer, and I ultimately chose ProRider because of its strong reputation and how closely it mirrors the police motorcycle training that had such a big impact on me.

Like any small business, there were a few bumps in the road getting started, but the ProRider team provided great support along the way. The biggest challenge so far has been marketing. It can be tough to convince riders to sign up for training, because it often means admitting there’s room for improvement, and that’s not always an easy step to take.

That said, every rider I’ve worked with has walked away having learned something new, and just as importantly, having had a great time doing it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am originally from Kansas so if my friends come we usually take a trip to the Aquarium in Atlanta. I would also take them to the mountains to hike to some waterfalls. Other than that I would stay local and we would go to Mimis Good Food in Peachtree City and Taco Mama in Newnan to eat for at least one meal. We may even go down to the Wild Animal Safari Pine Mountain.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank the Police Motorcycle Community who have encouraged me through the process. I would specifically like to thank the Cobb County Police Department Motor Unit.
