We had the good fortune of connecting with Staci Thompson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Staci, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was once told do what you love, and it will never feel like work. I want to enjoy what I do. At the same time I want financial freedom! I want to create generational wealth. I want something of my own! I had a vision which was starting my cosmetic line. When I was 13 years old, I got my hands on makeup for the first time! I didn’t know how to apply it, however I loved how it made me feel. When I would receive money I would always purchase lipstick lots of it. I had so many lipsticks, and so many colors. I had a signature lip I would wear which was a brown lip liner and a nude lipstick! I’ve received so many compliments and it only cost me $1 for each. I always dreamed of starting a business. When I walk down the cosmetics aisle I feel inspired. One day my products will be in a Ulta, Sephora, Macys, Nordstrom, or maybe I will open my own brick and mortar. It’s still surreal seeing my name on my products. So What was my thought process behind starting my business! I would say a 13 year old who discovered her passion and turned her dream into reality.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Shop Staci Yvonne, is a black owned beauty brand! Founded in December 2020! I am Staci the Founder, owner, employee, shipper, order full-filler customer service, marketer, and more. You can’t complete any makeup look without a good lipstick or a gloss! Whether you want. A natural look, bold look, or a full beat. My vegan lip products enhances your natural beauty and will have you smiling back at yourself in the mirror! I’m proud of how far I’ve come. While running a business you will experience long nights and early mornings. You have to make a lot of sacrifices if you want to succeed. It’s not easy running a business but it’s worth it. Some days business is slow other days it’s busy. You have to remain positive and remember it’s a marathon and not a sprint.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots in the city is definitely the scenery and the great food. I recommend a brunch cruise if you’re a foodie and loves music. You will find great places for shopping! Bring a camera for the beautiful scenery. So many museums, so wear comfortable shoes! The nights are even better with bowling, lounges, music, drinks, food, and more.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout my family for supporting me throughout this process. Whether it was helping hand or words of encouragement I wouldn’t have been here without them!
