We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonya Carr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sonya, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
In life you don’t always have a concrete plan with EVERYTHING figured out. I never wanted to live with regrets. While all the stars weren’t aligned, I still decided to “do it scared.” If there’s an opportunity where you can pursue your dreams even though the timing doesn’t seem 100% perfect or everything isn’t all the way lined up, Still Do It!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have the joy of dual careers! During the day I am a HR Professional currently at a manufacturing facility and evenings and weekends I wear the hat of a bakery owner. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s and Master in Business. This propelled my successful HR career for the past ten plus years.
As a young child you could always find me in the kitchen with my mom. She’s groomed my baking skills with the additional baking classes and self taught adventures.
I love both and consider myself blessed to be able to excel in both.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m always checking out bakeries wherever I go. I especially love to support small businesses because I know how important every sale is. I also love to learn from other bakery owners and enjoy the exposure to other baking professionals.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family has provided the ultimate support in making my dream a reality. They were onboard from Day 1. They have shared in my success and my struggles. None of this would be possible without them.
