We had the good fortune of connecting with Sofia Guarino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sofia, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
It can be discouraging at times to be surrounded with the success of others while you struggle to meet the same level of recognition. The comparison game is never beneficial. When I hear how someone is affected by my music, or that it helped them through something, that motivates me to continue to create. I know that no one has the same unique story as mine, and that it can always be a tool to help others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My family never had a lot growing up, so I never thought I’d be able to begin releasing music at the age of 17. Fortunately for me, my oldest brother wound up becoming a phenomenal producer who owns his own recording studio. Because of that, I’ve had access to share my music with the world from a young age. Writing music is a way for me to process my life experiences and share my thoughts on the world as I see it. I’m most excited to perform with my band to invoke emotion in our audiences.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite things to do in and around Atlanta include physical activities, thrift shopping, and eating good food. The top places on my list would be Escalade Rock Climbing Gym, Ecologie Vintage and Thrift, Red Top Mountain, Zoe’s Kitchen, and Provinos.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My whole family is musical; in fact, three of my brothers and I used to be in a band as kids. I began performing with them for churches and nursing homes when I was just under two years old. I attribute that as to why I’ve always felt comfortable being on stage and performing. My parents always encouraged me to pursue music, and now I have a great support system of friends, my band, and my boyfriend who continue to help me grow and become a better musician.
