We had the good fortune of connecting with Shontel Thomas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shontel, alright, let’s jump in with a deep one – what’s you’re definition for success?
Everyone has their own definition of success. Everyone has goals, dreams and visions. Not everyone is brave enough to go after what their dreams, goals or visions. we always speak of the fear of failure but no one speaks about the fear of success. What people don’t understand is struggle and sacrifice always comes before success. In my eyes success is having a vision, goal or dream and overcoming every obstacle that comes along the way to get it. Having the mindset that you can do this. Living the life just as you dream it. Success is not just money, cars and fame. Success willing to go after the thing you once was so scared to achieve. Success is having peace and love. Success is something that truely makes you happy. Success is coming out of what once made you comfortable. Stepping into things that offers new challenges to grow.

What should our readers know about your business?
The name of my business is Goddess Glow. Goddess Glow focuses primary on promoting women’s self care. I want my business to help make women feel beautiful inside and out. The word Goddess expresses the beauty of a woman of great charm. In my eyes all women are beautiful. Glow is steady light. Even in the darkest hour your light will always glow. My business offers; Make-up services, Mink extensions, facials, waxing and cosmetics line. I am most proud of how much my business has grown over the course of two years. Hard work and being consistent has gotten where I am today business wise. The number one thing that i have learned is becoming more responsible.I set goals for my business every month. Being more financially responsible. Being a business owner is not easy. Everyone seems to think because you have your own business you have it easy and you have money. To be completely honest this is the hardest thing I have ever done. The biggest thing I had to over come was balance. Working hard is great. You going after your goals is amazing. However, don’t neglect yourself in the process. Im growing up in a generation where we hear a lot of ” Ill sleep when i’m successful” or “team no sleep”. Not know how unhealthy it is. Get your rest! Take care of your health! Drink water! Meditate! Take breaks! Work hard but understand that you need a healthy body to enjoy what you have worked so hard for. I created a work life balance. The biggest lesson I learned is never limit yourself. It is absolutely nothing you cant do. I also learned to never compare myself to anyone. As much as people hate to admit it, we are humans naturally we compare ours to others. You have to pay attention to your growth and proud of you what you have accomplished instead of wishing you was as success as someone else and wondering why you not there. Everyone has there own season. Embrace where you are but be determine to make more. Another thing that I learned to be careful who you tell your dreams too. Not everyone needs to understand your vision. Not everyone will believe in your vision. Thats okay. The vision wasnt shown to them it was shown to you. Never allow people to belittle your dreams including your family and friends and family. What I would love for the world to know about me is i come from a small city. I didnt grow up around role models I grew up around people i didnt want to be like. You dont have to be born into a family with money to be successful. You can be the one to break generational curses. I always say I dont care who it start with but it ends here with me. I know my purpose is to end generational curses and strenghten people’s belief. My brand was funded off $400. It doesnt take much to start just start and dont quit.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestfriend was in the city. The first thing we would do is shop. Im pretty simple woman. I love shopping at It’s Fashion, Ross and Catos. We would have brunch mid day at Cork and cleaver off Zelda Road. Stop by one of my boss friends shop ‘Heavenly Jews’ for nice accessories. Go enjoy go cart riding at the Go-kart track. Go home take a nap and get back up. My favorite place I love to go to is BB.KINGS in the casino. They have a live band playing, vibe is nice and they have great drinks and food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The first person I would love to shout out is God. God has given me this vision. My mentors; Algenae Parks; Sherain Jackson and Destee. My Friends, Family and my many clients who help me get this far. The amazing book; “Rich dad, Poor dad”. All of this made a major impact of my success and achievements.
