We had the good fortune of connecting with Sherrikka Myers and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sherrikka, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success is many things, but i will just name a few. Authenticity is one, because when you are able to just be yourself and still be admired by people, is such a blessing. Empathy is another one. When you are able to empathize with people, you have a clear advantage because the sense of expectations and emotions of others is very helpful and allows you to reach consensus more easily with others. Confidence is another one. You believe in your success and can communicate that? Appearing confident will impress those around you and helps you be perceived as successful, thus making the path to success easier to pursue. Last but not least patience. Good things come to those who wait. With a little patience, you can be much more successful in the long run. Be prepared to wait a little longer for success. That will make it possible for you to approach decisions with a much greater foresight
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a speaker, children book author, founder of Every 1 Voice Matters & The Little Herbie Series and the creator of Lil Herbie, the anti-bullying mascot. What sets me apart from everyone else is not being afraid of what people had to say anymore about my stuttering, not being afraid to speak and be heard and also realizing that my voice mattered and it always did. Getting here wasn’t a easy task, some people didn’t believe that stuttering was a real issues, therefore would not support the cause. I decided to never give up and keep pushing forward, because I don’t want kids to wait until they get my age, to realize that their voice matters. I want people to know that Every 1 Voice Matters is a nonprofit that not only help kids who stutter, but kids who have low self-esteem. lack self confidence and also deal with bullying.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to shout out my first book coming from the Lil Herbie Series Book Collection name Herbie’s New Home and my grandson Lil Herbert. It wasn’t until he started to speak and I noticed that he stuttered and that is when I decided to go back to school, get my degree and formed Every 1 Voice Matters. My goal is to help kids who stuttered, just like me growing up, to know that it doesn’t matter how long it may take them to say something, what people may say to them, at the end off the day that their voice matters just like everyone else.
