Meet Sheraton Gatlin | Celebrity Makeup Artist & 4x Best Selling Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sheraton Gatlin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sheraton, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
VoirBelle LLC. was started in 2017, two years after I graduated from Gwynnis Mosby Makeup Academy as a professional certified makeup artist. Stepping out on faith into the beauty industry opened many doors that I had never imagined and presented many opportunities. Being a professional certified makeup artist has allowed me to give back to the community and to the world in numerous ways. I have participated in many fashion shows that have been committed to bringing awareness to domestic violence, enhancing the natural beauty of cancer survivors, giving back to homeless shelters for pregnant women through makeup application, highlighting creative designers, and much more. I also worked on many production sets and assisted on short independent films and series in the realm of tv and film on networks and channels that others in the world watch and access everyday. I am committed to enhancing natural beauty through makeup application and male grooming so each individual’s beauty can surface and shine a little brighter exuberating who they naturally are.
What should our readers know about your business?
VoirBelle LLC. specializes in tv, film, glam, weddings, and more while enhancing the natural beauty one already possesses. Providing all clients with professionalism, reliability, and quality work. Often times I hear so many horror stories from clients on how a makeup artist they had previously did a terrible job, or applied too much makeup and they felt they did not look like themselves. Many of my clients sit in my chair simple want to enhance their natural beauty or add a little glam, and not look completely transformed. I also hear from many photographers and directors how they hire makeup artist that show up late or not at all to the job, at times, even after a deposit has been paid. And lastly in the world of social media, apps, and camera exposure many clients feel that what they see on the page is not what they get once the service is complete. VoirBelle LLC. is honest and about 95% of the work you see via social media or the website is unfiltered unedited, raw images. VoirBelle means “To see or to behold beautiful” which a personal already has within. VoirBelle LLC. expects to allow that beauty to surface, and once it surfaces, help it to shine brighter.
I am truly proud that I always believed in me and I never give up. I am always searching for greater and thinking of what my next move is going to be. I am excited that believing in me and continuing forward has opened so many doors for me and landed me so many opportunities. At times I find myself in atmospheres where I am truly humbles to be able to be in the room and shake hands with individuals I never imagined I would meet and connect with.
I am constantly open to feedback, and learning while maintaining a positive attitude. Many people may call you back for jobs not only based upon talent, but your humbleness, personality, and attitude on the job. I also have a willingness to assist in any way I can during jobs. There have been many times I have been hired as the makeup artist, but outside of what I was called to do, you may see me helping with equipment, cleaning, and helping keep others on task.
It has not been an easy road and there is still work to do. Not only do I pray about everything and worry about nothing, I also seek advice from other industry leaders and other individuals in business and take in knowledge and skills from them. I have learned there are some opportunities I have to walk away from or say “no” to if it does not serve me and my purpose. There are many that will take advantage of you and your business if you let them.
I want the world to know my story is authentic and my brand is original built from the ground up. It truly takes time and money to build something great. For my brand I have been willing to invest in myself and invest in my business. There are also many sacrifices that come along with the success. And even when no one seems to be supportive of you, you have to fight for your vision and see it through. If you can think it, dream it, all you need to do is work on execution. Execution is the important piece where most seem to fail. I am sure you have all heard it before, but I will say it again that, anything worth having is worth fighting for. So fight for your brand, your business, your vision, your baby. Stand to tell your story. We do not go through things for us alone, but for someone else who needs the encouragement, inspiration, and needs to know, if I did it, you can do it too.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a best friend visiting the area here in Atlanta and we had a week to tour the city, I would have to take them to the main attractions first such as the Martin Lither King Historical Park, the CNN Center, Skyview Atlanta, walk through Centennial Park, and enjoy the Georgia Aquarium along with the Coca Cola Museum. A pit stop at The Battery Atlanta and Ponce City Market would also get added to the agenda. I truly love to eat, so ensuring we have some amazing food is a must. The Roc South Cuisine and Blue Seafood house offers an amazing brunch with some awesome drinks. The restaurant 9 Mile Station at Ponce City Market has an amazing view and some pretty tasty appetizers so we would have to stop there for a small bite. For dinner, Capital Grille and Two Urban Licks have always been my favorites along with McCormick and Schmick’s recently added to my list. Atlanta has so much to offer in terms of fun things to do, it truly depends on your mood. I would love to bring my friend to enjoy live music, sip and paint and we bring our own wine or champagne, and maybe grab a piece of the nightlife.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I remember when attending the University of Memphis I took a psychology class with a total of 400 students. The grade was solely based upon four tests that would be taken during the course. I remember being nervous and afraid as I had never been in such a class. I expressed to my Mother how nervous I was, how the other students expressed to me the teacher was mean, and I just knew in my mind I would fail because one failed exam could blow it. My Mother began to explain to me that just because other students failed and thought the class was difficult did not mean that would be the same outcome for me. She poured into me and encouraged me to do the best I can. That was just one moment out of many moments in my life my mother has been a huge support to me and encouraged me to always push past the limit. My parents have always had my back and believed in me and my decisions, My mother always told me to strive to have a job that I could sit behind a desk and work in the air conditioning. She has always taught me to seek more. I have always attempted in everything I do and touch to do just that.
When I moved to Atlanta, the whole city motivated me. Everyone was busy doing something whether it be acting, modeling, artist, writer, photographer. I was ready to see what the city had to offer me and see what I could get into that fit me. I attended Gwynnis Mosby Makeup Academy and became a professional certified makeup artist. Mrs. Gwynnis was not only an amazing instructor, but she is an awesome mentor to her alumni. She was always willing to answer any questions and constantly sending out both paid and unpaid jobs to assist with you getting your foot in the door to the beauty industry. Moving to Atlanta was the best decision I ever made as it opened the window of opportunity and allowed me to be apart of some wonderful projects, do some amazing things, and display to my son you never have to settle, the world is yours. Director Alan Brooks has made a huge impact in my life by hiring me for many jobs as a makeup artist in production that has allowed me to work with many “A List Celebrities”. I certainly cannot forget about Director Robinson Vil who not only believed in me as a makeup artist for his production, but also requested I be an actress in his series “Thick Skin” as seen on iTunes and Amazon Prime which also added to my resume.
I am very thankful for a tribe of family and friends that support me and truly want to see me win. I am presently a 4x Best Selling Author, I always wanted to write a book. But it was not until I saw my friend Jade Woodley publish her book “Mask Off” that I then truly began to believe it was possible for me to become an author. She inspired me to write my story “BITCH Grab the Wine” by simply following her dreams. While working on my personal memoir, I met Dr. Nakita Davis, CEO, Owner and Founder of Jesus Coffee and Prayer publishing house that assisted me in becoming a 3x Best Selling Author in 60 days. Once my personal memoir was published, the best seller stamp followed allowing me to now be a 4x Best Selling Author and God is not finished with me yet.
