We had the good fortune of connecting with Shantorsia Jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shantorsia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I was about 13 years old, I knew that my calling was to be an entrepreneur. I watched both my mother and father operate their own businesses which inspired me to do the same. I have always been interested in the cosmetology and esthetic’s field. I’ve tried hair, makeup, etc. but none gave me the love I have for body sculpting! I had the procedure done on myself in 2018 and I knew this was for me. I did more research in the field and received my certification a year later. I jumped out on faith and started my own business. I found a small working space to service my clients and the rest is history.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started out working as a customer service agent at the age of 19. From there, I had my share of jobs along the way. Before I started my entrepreneurship, I was working for a company called Sage. Sage was an accounting program that tons of business owners used to manage their books and payroll. After working their for 2 years, I gained so much knowledge about businesses. How businesses run their day to day functions to business jargon. I built up the courage to say “Hey, I can run my own business!” Shortly after I was laid off and I didn’t have much money to start with so I invested my last with not knowing if this would work. I was afraid of failing because I have 3 children counting on me. I knew if not now, then when? I lost a lot of things along the way but my faith still remained strong. I found a really cheap suite to service my clients in. Once moving into my suite, I got the word out to my family and friends. The support was phenomenal. People from all over was sharing my post all over social media. I consider myself blessed because my business didn’t start off slow at all. Within 2 weeks, my books for the month were completely full. Blessed and highly favored! Body Sculpting changed my life! I encourage other business owners to always keep faith! Although, it may seem impossible, we can do anything we put our minds too. Anything is possible regardless of your current situation. My grandma always use to say bad times don’t always last.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite spots in Atlanta is Spice House. Spice House is a Caribbean restaurant and lounge. I love the music selections, the ambiance, and the food is absolutely delicious! My favorite entrée is the Turkey wings. They are the best I’ve ever had. Full of flavor! They also have a full bar and a host for hookahs. Very nice vibe. They have a few locations but my favorite is the Buckhead location.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Right before I started body sculpting and during my research period, I looked into other body sculpting techs currently in the field at that time. One particular body sculptor that stood out to me was Nikki Payne owner of Vain Bodies Atl. I watched her IG stories every single day. Not only did she have a sense of humor but she had such an inspiring story. Her story really moved me because after all the traumatic experiences she went through body sculpting saved her life. When I was at my lowest around this time and was scared to take the leap of faith but I knew if she could do it, I could too. I have a story and I love to build other women who may feel like they can’t do it.
