We had the good fortune of connecting with Selldretti and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Selldretti, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I believe the most important factor behind my success and with my brand is ownership. Being able to stay true to myself and to make my own decisions for myself and my business has given me the ability to have a wider scope of success. Although it is tough at times being an entrepreneur, I believe the biggest benefit and key to future success is freedom.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started making music seriously back in 2016 when my older brother, Marcus Muscogee, told me that I could take my talents to another level, and from then on I began to do my own research in the music business and began to create my own brand called Selldretti Music. From then on I kept being consistent with releasing content and focused on building my brand just as much as making quality music.
I think what sets me apart from others is my connection with the military. I served as an enlisted Soldier in the Army for three years and graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2019. I am also the first African American Male from Columbus, Ga to accomplish this achievement. Having these educational accolades has further helped me shape my focus in my music and business.
I’ve learned many lessons in my business venture, but the most important one is that no matter what happens, always make sure that I own my masters and my business and never give it away. There is just something truly valuable about calling something your own, and having 100% equity in my art and business means way more to me than the royalties and sales any day.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well, I am huge sports fan specifically football fan, so I would definitely suggest going to an Atlanta Falcons game even though they have let me down over the years (highlighting the Super Bowl loss to the New a England Patriots). I would also suggest going to Topgolf on a weekend. I think that would be a pretty fun and chill place to check out. For food I would suggest the Cheesecake Factory or my favorite, IHOP. I know IHOP is a little cliche, but I am a die hard customer of IHOP and will always suggest that place to anyone.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First I would like to give a shoutout to God for the many blessings he has given me and his guidance in my life. Second, I would like to shoutout my Wife for being an amazing woman and anchor for me. Third, I would like to thank my immediate family members such as my dad, brothers, stepmom, stepdad, granny, mom-in-Law and grandma-in-Law for the endless love and support throughout my life. Lastly, I would like to give a shoutout to everyone who listens to my music and future customers of my business. I really appreciate it.
