We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Saintilme and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Beautiful question! I think for many women out there, we want to create purpose in our life. Creating a business not only stimulates your passion or purpose but also creates financial opportunities that would not have occurred if the step was not taken.

I was at a point in my life about 4 years ago where I felt very underwhelmed. I was in the 3rd year of my Chemistry program at York University in Toronto and I felt extremely lost. It wasn’t until I decided to start social media dedicated to my passion at the time (hair/design), that I felt so free! The extra income on the side was truly just a bonus!

If I am able to start making money from something as simple as posting my hairstyle for the day, while making extra income, I believe anyone reading this will be able to effortlessly do the same thing!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Entrepreneurship is a lonely road. What has kept me going and what I am most proud of is all of the amazing women I get to meet, talk to and interact with on a daily basis! They make this journey so much more exciting and fulfilling! I am also most excited about meeting more like-minded entrepreneurs, beauty enthusiasts, and providing value to them on a heart-to-heart basis.

Since starting this journey in 2016, it has been filled with many trials and lessons, for sure. When you start optimistic, that optimism can take you through so many obstacles and keep you motivated. I started with just posting content I would love and viewers would love, as often as possible. When the decision came to create my own product, it was scary but fun! It was immediately successful and has resulted in multiple thousands in my business. I am so proud of what I have built, but I definitely didn’t do it alone. It’s the trust and support that I have gained along the way with my audience.

The shadow side to success is making mistakes often because it is completely new territory. It’s hard not to beat yourself up over mistakes that you make/made but the best thing that can be done is to rectify what you can and move forward. There are so many other important lessons I could share, but the most important one is to remain true to your purpose and trust the process!

My brand’s Sol beauty and Sol media are two sides to the same coin but in both endeavors, I am most proud of our growing relationship! I want the world to know about the positive influences of beauty products and the bosses behind the brand.

With my beauty brand, we always give try to source ethically, be more sustainable by recycling our products more, and donate 5% of profits to a charity at the end of the year. In the past, we have donated to Locs of love, a charity for children who have lost their hair due to cancer, and this year we have chosen Dr. Roz’s Healing Place. A local Toronto center that provides emergency services for women and children who have suffered from domestic abuse. I am also most proud of our beauty products like our wigs and hair products, as they have helped hundreds of women feel more beautiful!

If I didn’t start reviewing beauty products with Sol Beauty initially, I wouldn’t have been exposed to the opportunity to expand and network with other beauty brands in the industry. Henceforth, starting Sol media to grow a community of new beauty entrepreneurs to let them know they are supported!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am currently based in Toronto at the moment! I love this city and I am always happy to provide a tour to friends and family that visit! Assuming it is summertime, there are a bajillion things to do, so let’s get started!

The first day would have to be a visit to the CN Tower! The tallest tower in North America and the best view in the city! We’d have lunch at Restaurant 360 in the tower as well! Have a few drinks, Chardonnay, and have a great time! Hopefully, it’s clear cause we would be able to see Niagara from the high tower too.

The next day would be a visit to the Eaton center, our biggest shopping mall where we would shop till we drop at Nordstrom, Zara, etc! Have some lunch at my favorite coffee spot around the corner and have an all-around great time again! In the evening, we would reach the Drake Hotel in Toronto (aka the Drake Underground) for some martini’s and listen to some live music!

On the third day, we’ll visit Center island! It’s the best and most beautiful island in Toronto, and it’s super easy to get to. We would take the ferry from union station and after a short ride, we’re on the island! We’re free to visit the beach, go to the fair, or take a stroll on the trails for a nice afternoon hike! I love eating the street food there and the beef or Italian sausages are my definite go-to! Don’t forget to take in the sweeping views of our beautiful city architecture!

This part is the most fun part! On the fourth day, we are visiting the Bluffs! Yes, these are eroded hills that look over lake Ontario and were formed from the melting of glaciers thousands of years ago! We can visit each beach along the bluffs and explore the beautiful wildlife and gaze at the lake, It’s so cool to look at because whether you’re at the top of the bluffs (hills) or bottom, it always feels calming, relaxing, and chill. Depending on which beach we visit (Bluffers Park Marina beach is my first go-to), we can have a nice bbq, eat, listen to music, and have amazing chats for hours!

On the fifth and sixth day, this is where we are going to have on our hiking shoes and bring our bathing suits! We are taking a trip to the most beautiful national park around Toronto and that is Algonquin Park! It’ll take 3 hours to get there, so we may have to leave early so we can check into our cottage Airbnb by 1 pm. It’s a beautiful log cabin overlooking our own private lake to go boating, fishing, swimming, etc! We’ll spend the afternoon on a hike, watching the wildlife and looking out for bears! We’ll be fine, don’t worry! We’ll then make it home in time for some swimming, boating, and watching the sunset over the beautiful lake. So picturesque!

The seventh day is just a day to chill and take it easy back home at our hotel! We’ll make pancakes in the morning with real Canadian maple syrup watch some movies!

I love Toronto just for the versatility of the land and the multicultural aspects of our people! So much to do and eat!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to give BIG BIG BIIIG thanks to my sol siblings at Sol Beauty and my fellow beauty bosses at Sol Media that watches my videos and supported me these past few years! All of this is for us! Let’s go!
