We had the good fortune of connecting with Sana Ahmed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sana, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Some of the greatest blessings in my life have come from the courage to take more risks.“Take more risk” sounds easy enough, right? But the choice to take more risks has always come with a lot of fears and self-doubts. Naturally, at first, when I thought about taking risks I feared rejection, failure, uncertainty, and change. Every time I even thought about taking the plunge, I got knots in my stomach telling me to fight/flight.

I had a complicated relationship with fear, where I thought fear was bad, dangerous, and unwise. I found it easier to stay in my comfort zone where it was safe and knew what to expect. But, one day, I asked myself one important question, was I truly living to my full potential? When I realized the answer was no, I knew I had to make a change. The changes I made forced me to shift my frame of mind and my relationship with taking “risks”.

Taking more risks has opened new doors, provided more opportunities, and allowed me to build more confidence. Taking more risks created life changes that allowed me to get what I deserve and not what I settled for. I trusted my choices and gave myself the permission to fail, explore and grow. A new world opened up, one that no longer existed in my comfort zone. Risk helped me stretch, be more flexible, and made me feel more empowered. I started taking leaps that helped me elevate my business to new heights.

No more than ever I am in control and the master of my own destiny.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sana Crown prides itself in curating sophisticated, quality, meaningful and elegant collections handcrafted by expert artisans who use high-quality and enduring pieces. Each collection is inspired by different women and their stories. The Sana Crown brand embodies elegance, boldness, resilience, simplicity, and a promise for a hopeful future. We offer luxury pieces made out of fine metals and artistic symbols of the deep-rooted cultures around the world.

What sets us apart from other brands is that our foundation is built on empowering women by using fashion as the source and education as the tool. I am so proud of the brand I have built and the foundation it has been built on. I always dreamt of birthing a business that composed many of my values and passions. For me, those things have always been creation, philanthropy, and woman empowerment. The most important mission behind what I do is that I want to make other women feel empowered. I envisioned a brand that would help women feel good, be their best, and break the generational gender barriers that exist worldwide. Although we have a long way to go, we are so happy about the positive impact we have made to date in the lives of young women in Ethiopia.

To answer how I got to where I am today, I would have to attribute it to my resilience, focus, ability to make pivots, and never quitting. I am always learning, listening, trying, doing, and revamping which have helped me grow my brand. I take risks, have a clear vision of where I want to take my brand, and take on challenges with a calm mind. It hasn’t been easy by any means and I have had to overcome many challenges on this journey. However, I learned fairly early that failure was part of the process and the quicker I embraced that, the faster I was able to focus on my wins instead of my losses.

I am ready to take Sana Crown to new heights and I hope the world is ready for us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
From the best shops and restaurants to experiences in the world, there’s nothing quite like this city. So, it’s extremely difficult to narrow it down to just a few places, but I will share my short-list.

For a week-long stay, I would start with the main attractions like the Brooklyn bridge, Whitney Museum of American Art Arrow, Broadway, Brooklyn Heights Promenade, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Rockefeller Centre, Central Park, Soho, and Union Square Greenmarket. We would start our days at some of my favorite brunch spots like 8803 Nyc, Clinton street Jacking Company, Jack’s Wife Freda, and Jacobs pickle. For lunch and dinner, we would make our rounds at Catch NYC, Cecconi’s in Brooklyn (the most beautiful view of the NYC skyline), Carbone, Refinery Rooftop Bar, La Merci Cafe, the Smith, Serra Fiorita, and Serfina.

The city has some of the most beautiful rooftops and cafes in the world, so it’s only right that they would be included in the itinerary. Some of my favorite rooftops include Jimmy at the James Hotel, Gallow Green, Delancey, Westlight NYC, and Harriet’s Rooftop. As for cafes, it would have to be The Prince Tea House, Copper mug Coffee, Remi NYC, The Nomad Hotel, and Devocion,

You can never go wrong with good food, a great view, and the perfect ambiance, and that is exactly what you will get from my picks.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I owe a lot of gratitude to my incredible family for their sacrifices and endless support. My tight circle of friends, who pushes me, keeps me grounded, and is always cheering me on. I would also like to recognize the amazing mentors in my life. I am extremely grateful to have these accomplished and brilliant people in my corner to help guide me through tough decisions, provide opportunities and push me when I need the extra nudge. It takes a village, and I am thankful for mine.
