We had the good fortune of connecting with Ryan McVey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ryan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
After working fire and EMS for over 10 years, I was very motivated by o get away from trading my time for money. I found a had gift for acting and making movies, so I started finding ways to get on set and chasing my dream of being a full time film maker
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is of acting and filmmaking. I’m proud of taking the leap from public service to chase the dream of making movies, bringing characters to life, and of the hard work and sacrifices I’ve made to get to where I am. Nothing about the journey has been easy, but through faith and help from others in the industry, I’ve been able to accomplish more than I ever believed I could. Lessons I’ve learned are that no one is gonna believe in you if you don’t believe in yourself, and no one is gonna do the work for you. My Mayhem Films brand is about making badass films about captivating characters, and not only to entertain, but to make movies that send a message to our audiences.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m still pretty new to Atlanta area coming from Savannah, GA. I’d probably head towards the mountains tho where we could venture some of the amazing outdoors of north GA and hit some of the distilleries for some good bourbon and cigars. I’m kind of an adrenaline junky, so motorcycles and repelling would be on the itinerary as well. Let’s grab some pizza, wings, or burgers, a cold beer, and watch some football, or check out some of the great live music preferably with a campfire close by.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to the US Marines and Masonic Lodge for the brotherhood helping mold me to the man I am today. Shout out to William Mark McCullough at the Savannah Actors Studio, and Jana Beeson at The Actor’s Code for helping me believe in myself and my gifts as an actor, and putting me in the mindset of failing my way to success in one of the most competitive and humbling professions to work in.
