We had the good fortune of connecting with Ruben “Baby Horchata” Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ruben “Baby Horchata”, why did you pursue a creative career?
Mental health. I saw how entertainment can literally make someone’s day and make people happy. I knew if I entered the entertainment world I could help people at a larger scale. I noticed I had the ability to make people laugh and when I spoke people would listen. Becoming a comedian came shortly after I began acting and the love for both grew as time went. I just want to create escapes for people. I want to make people smile. I want to make people FEEL!
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Pursuing anything in creative lane is difficult. You have to block out the idea of instant satisfaction as you will NOT get there. Learn that the word NO is going to be one of the most heard phrases. You have to accumulate self-love as well as self-accountability. You will find that you will meet strangers that love you more than friends and family. I love my Ls…which aren’t losses…they are lessons! It taught me so much at a young stage. Now I remember those heartbreaks so my circle and network don’t have to go through them. I carry that with my film company as I show actors and crew how they deserve to be treated. I just want to give opportunities to those that never had opportunities.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
MANNNNNNNNNN Downtown Chi-city is the greatest!!!! We are probably going to stay in the west-loop at the Ace-Hotel as the vibes are unmatched! We’ll definitely hit some food spots all over! We would visit little village (during the day) and eat some tacos at Los Comales for lunch and then hit the northside to get some pizza at Homeslice for dinner! Obviously, we will visit the bean, navy pier and hit the museum for the skyline view (If you know, YOU KNOW). Also, the art exhibits in Chicago are un-matched so we can go to one from whatever side! West-loop has a cool nightlife or we can hit Wrigleyville (Go White Sox) for night life. Even chilling by Lake-shore drive is a vibe. So much to do in the best city in the WORLD!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Mario Canon. He has been my backbone in a lot of my business ventures and having a mentor like that is something I am blessed. He is Co-owner of Starpower Film Company as well and I re-call when we were both not getting any callbacks from auditions we were upset but one day I said “lets quit waiting on opportunity’s…LETS CREATE THEM!” He said “lets do it” almost immediately. Forever grateful for the times he told me when I was messing up and not being myself as well. Love you bro! #STARPOWER
