We had the good fortune of connecting with Roz Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Roz, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was about to turn 50, going through a divorce, and had reached a point where I wanted something for me. To do something that I was passionate about, and have the flexibility to set my own work schedule, whilst meeting and working with new people every day.

I had my Color Analysis in England when I was in my early twenties and it changed the way I’ve shopped for clothes and dressed ever since. I have three daughters and when they were young I dressed them in the same colors and styles. As they grew older and all developed their own personalities it played into their individual style and what they felt comfortable wearing. Helping each of them buy clothes for different occasions in their lives made me think about teaching other people and empowering them to look and feel their best. We all know how much happier and confident we are when we like what we’re wearing! I think looking modern and stylish at any age is important but a lot of people just aren’t sure how or where to begin.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The two main areas I teach are Color Analysis and Personal Style. Color Analysis is the process of finding which colors best harmonize with a person’s natural skin tone, hair and eye color. In natural daylight using precision dyed drapes, I find the colors that are dramatically more flattering to my clients — and also show them which ones are best to avoid! Just about every person who comes into my studio says “I can’t unsee that!” and it’s true; Color Analysis will change your life! We all want to look and feel great, and just by wearing the right colors my clients see themselves looking younger, healthier and more vibrant instantly!

Personal Style is where I identify the best clothing shapes to flatter my client’s body, and the styles that capture their personality. Most people don’t realize that our body proportions have an impact on which styles look good on us, and why we might be the same height as our friend but some things look so much better on them! Clients often think their weight is a factor when in fact their personality is much more relevant.

My clients are ordinary people who want to look great and feel confident in what they wear. Sometimes they’re struggling with their self esteem after having a baby or a life change, and some just want help knowing how to buy clothes that look good on them. When we feel confident in what we are wearing it gives us courage and a visibility we otherwise wouldn’t have. Most of all though, they want to stop wasting time and money on clothes that don’t suit them!

I love that every day I have a direct impact on empowering my clients to feel confident in their unique natural beauty and personality.

It was incredibly scary starting my own business at 50. I constantly wondered whether it was the right, or even sensible thing to do, but it gave me so much personal happiness and freedom. It was challenging having to learn so many new skills; from posting on social media to marketing and accounting. Another learning curve for me has been to “stay in my lane”, and realize that other people’s stories, successes and timelines aren’t mine. When I start comparing myself to others, I refocus on the fact that I’m doing what I love and that it brings me joy and fulfillment.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Must visits in Atlanta are: Ponce City Market – shop and eat anywhere and everywhere. We’d have to take home a few pastries from Saint Germain bakery too!
The Beltline and Piedmont Park as long as it wasn’t too hot!
Fox Theatre to see a show if possible, but it’s such a beautiful building in itself.

Day trips out to:
Gibbs Gardens in Ball Ground – the gardens are beautiful throughout the year.
Dahlonega – breathtaking scenic drives and then call in at Paul Thomas Chocolates for a treat or two.

I live in Roswell so we’d definitely walk up Mimosa Blvd to see the old houses – Barrington Hall, Bulloch Hall, Primrose Cottage, Kimball Hall, then head down to the boardwalk along the Chattahoochee River.

For shopping we’d head to Alpharetta – so many cute boutiques to look around.

Eats:
The Select, Sandy Springs – great food, beautiful restaurant, fun atmosphere and they make an awesome Kir Royale
Anis Cafe – french food is always a must, and saving room for their brioche bread pudding!!
Pizza Lucca, Roswell – I love a white based pizza and their Fig Bianco is worth every calorie.
Campania, Alpharetta – doesn’t get any better for local Italian and friendly service
Salt, Roswell – it’s always fun to sit on Canton Street and watch the world go by, and their fish and chips satisfies my English cravings!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My daughters Rhiannon, Cerys and Bechan have been my biggest cheer leaders! They all encouraged me to start the business and have helped and supported me every step of the way. In the early days they would text or call to wish me luck before every appointment and then check in afterwards to see how it had gone. On those weeks when business was slow, they motivated me to keep going; telling me I made starting a business look easy! I wanted to succeed (and still do) to make them proud. The other person who continues to encourage me is my fiancee Phil. He persuaded me to move to Roswell and I wouldn’t be here without him! He understands that I don’t have a fixed schedule, is happy to go to UPS to send orders out to my clients or make me a much needed cup of tea!
