We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodrika Bailey Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rodrika, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
When it came to starting my business, my first step was figuring out if this was a SMART move. My business initially began as a favor that grew into a need. I have learned the best businesses are the one that solves people’s problems. In my case, I was solving a need for peace and cleanliness so my clients could grow their business in vacation rentals. Before I launched, I researched what I could about cleaning businesses. Everything from Formations, potential profits and the different avenues/niches in cleaning. And although I was unsure and inexperienced in my field, I decided to go for it. The freedom and control over my life was worth the jump.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I own Bailey’s Belles LTD Company. It’s a vacation rental cleaning service in Savannah, Ga. We partner with homeowners to leverage their homes for profit via sites like Airbnb and VRBO. What sets us a part is the peace and communication we give our clients and their guests. Owners do not need the worry of whether their property is “guest ready” because they need time to market and invest. We understand that and take pride and pleasure in servicing the finest Vacation Rentals in Savannah, Ga.
I am most proud and excited because I have literally gotten every client through word of mouth. Hard work speaks for itself every time. And in my case it’s put me at 10 + properties, even during a pandemic.
It has NOT been easy. When I started in 2013 it was just myself cleaning. Over time I began to gain contractors for help when needed. In 2018, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, an “invisible” illness with a plethora of physical symptoms. Due to not being able to work, I leaned heavily on my contractors. That’s why gaining a loyal and well trained team is always key. My contractors truly saved my business from crumbling.
In 2020, the pandemic hit and all travel came to a halt for almost three months. I had no work and had to let my contractors go. We served 12 properties, by the end of the year I had to let 4 properties. My husband and I started working the remaining 8 properties alone.
Since the pandemic has gained some control, we have gained two new properties with a third in sight. I am bringing my contractors back in for work and I could not be happier to have their support while also being a source of support for them as well.
In business, it’s important to make connections, network and gain business relationships. I know it’s nothing but our motto, ” Loyal, Dependable and Trustworthy,” that has kept us afloat and in business throughout these difficult times.
I would love for the world to know one thing… If this former teen mom can do it, SO CAN YOU !
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week long trip in Savannah, Ga would be absolutely magical for anyone. The charms of the city alone if enough to suck you in. Everyone who visits, HAS to go to River Street. It is a MUST SEE.
Especially with the new J.W. Marriot Hotel open. It’s literally a hub of local restaurants and shops right on the Savannah River. The view of the Talmadge Bridge in the night light is a sight for sure. For a day trip, we would head out to Tybee Island which is about 45 mins away. The drive is serene and peaceful with great views of rivers and marsh. On the way I would stop at Rita’s Italian Ice if the line isn’t too long. But I guarantee it is shorter than the line for Leopold’s Ice Cream down on Broughton Street. The line can wrap the block on a good day, good thing they serve ice cold water while you wait.
For lunch I would totally try to catch Randy’s BBQ before he sells out ! He opens up 11am but the line starts forming by 10:30am. If you don’t make it by 12:30pm, don’t waste your time, he’s definitely sold out by then.
If you need a quick snack and cool drink, I would head to the Cuban Window Cafe for an empanada and pineapple soda, yummy. Or try their pastries from heaven, guava pastelitos. For dinner, I recommend hitting the best local wing place in town, 520 Wings. Wings so good I had to have them at our wedding…No seriously we got married with a 520 Wing Truck in the back !
For a little history, I would recommend a tour with DayClean Journeys. Request Dr. Amir Toure’ for your guide. You won’t regret it!
Forsyth Park is a must for picnics, dog walks or letting the children run around and play. The Telfair Museum offers great events for children.
Savannah has something for everyone!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Guys. My Husband and Son. My son, Jayden, has literally been the driving force behind this ship of success. Everything I have done has been in the spirit of raising my son, protecting him and showing him there are no limits. Even when it looks like it, step on em’ and keep climbing.
My Husband has been my ship. I have always been the sail, the one with the vision. However, without my husband, I could not have powered through like I have in these last seven years of business.
