We had the good fortune of connecting with Raquel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raquel, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is Faith. Faith in God, myself, my brand, and life in general. I used to struggle with thinking negatively and always expecting the worst out of situations. I sometimes fear that things won’t work out the way I want it to and that results in me holding back my ideas and dreams. I started to realize that Faith takes work and you have to search and believe in positivity. When you change your thinking, you change your actions, which changes your results. Every successful story I have ever had in life is due to hustle, support, and blessings. I have had great friends and family that have been a huge support group to me and a fiance that has believed in me since the day he met me. He is a true backbone in our partnership and pushes me to keep going and turn those endless ideas that constantly run around in my head, into reality. Every career I’ve had is because I believed I could do it and prayed along the way. I am most proud of my business – BOSS bebe. My brand has been a success because I believed I could do it, God gave me the strength and positivity to do it, and my friends and family always rooted for me. I once heard someone say “Overthinking steals time, creativity, and productivity,” so stop thinking and start doing!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
BOSS bebe is a lifestyle brand. I make skincare and beauty products, but I also want to promote feeling inspired and empowered through self-care. And that’s not just skincare but anything else that works on your relationship with you. I constantly search for different ways to work on myself and become happy with who I am and what I stand for. Ways that I like to “self-care” are running to clear my mind, reading intellectual and self-help books, listening to inspiring podcasts, and skin care! I want women to have that moment of confidence and work on the relationship with themself first. That’s how I came up with the idea for my brand. Skincare is important to me because if you look good, you feel good! I want us to look good the natural way and move away from harsh chemicals and preservatives. Put down the ingredients that are killing the environment and our skin. I think that is what sets me apart from other beauty companies. I am using my products to promote empowerment and boss babes. As a victim of sensitive skin, I will never feel self-conscious about showing it off again! I create products for everything from head to toe to give people options. My specialty is exfoliating body scrubs and body butters – ALL NATURAL. I want people who are not into skincare to become intrigued and people who regularly have a skincare regimen to add our products to their routine! Starting and running a business is not easy especially when you have two other jobs. Learning to juggle the 3 was my biggest obstacle once I got it started and I am still learning every day but I work on one thing at a time, one day at a time. I received help from people who were my biggest cheerleaders and I stayed positive through the entire process. One thing I want people to take away from my story is that you can achieve whatever you want IF you put in the work. Nothing successful ever comes easy. I didn’t have a lot growing up but I definitely used my resources to further my talent and the life I built for myself.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
What I love the most about Atlanta is that there are endless options for activities, scenery, and great food! There is something for everyone to do because the city is so eclectic. When I feel like having a day of good food, music, and shops all in one place, Little Five Points is my thing! You step into the world of artistry and creativity and see all different kinds of people hanging around there. There are nice little local shops and a lot of small businesses. There is also some really great pizza and the Vortex is a cool restaurant too. If you want somewhere nice and upscale, Buckhead and Peachtree are good areas for that, also a ton of food and great areas for bar hopping! My favorite chill spot would have to be Piedmont Park because there is always an event going on there – jazz festival, ice cream festival, 5k’s, or if you just want to have a nice picnic in the park! There are so many options in Atlanta, it is hard to say what the perfect day would entail, but definitely in the city!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are countless people to name that have contributed to where I am today and we would be here all day if I could name them but my family, friends, and fiance are the first that come to mind. My parents have always pushed me to go to college and do something great – a career I was passionate about and I found three of them! They taught me hard work and dedication at a young age. I got my first job at 15 and I haven’t stopped working since. I pushed through college and balancing school, work, and a social life was challenging! Staying up all night long studying (and sometimes crying) really paid off. I received both my bachelor’s and master’s within 5 years and now I am a teacher, athletic trainer, and entrepreneur. All 3 jobs are time-consuming and sometimes stressful but at times when I feel defeated, I remember how I got here and that I’ve been through worse. My fiance is another important person who is always there to pick me back up. He has taught me that stress will hurt you only if you let it. Don’t be so consumed in what people think of you or can do for you because that is something you can’t control. When I first decided that I wanted to start a skin care line, him, my sister, and best friend were my biggest motivators. They believed in me and the brand and worked day in night to help me launch this brand. The devotion and time they put into BOSS bebe was endless and I am so grateful for all of them. God has really blessed me by brining the right people into my life.
