We had the good fortune of connecting with Ra Vega$ and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ra, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Always put yourself out there and never doubt the process. Too many times I have seen people being TOO HUMBLE. And what I soon realized is that TOO MUCH HUMILITY CAN BE CONFUSED WITH COWARDICE! I learned this lesson after watching so many opportunities come and go because I was thinking that timing has to be perfect or you have to be perfect and I didn’t realize it’s more about ceasing the moment. Carpe Diem
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My music is small peek at what I believe to be the true essence of HIPHOP! The way I use metaphors, similes, and entendres is unmatched especially for a southern artist. I write lyrics that reflect inner turmoil and outer bravado so that you feel powerful in your position no matter your problems. I was first signed back in 2015, shoutout to Bobby Express, Skypad War and Kumtie, which started my journey professionally. So I started with Skypad War, he had me writing for FreeBand Gang’s Casino and once I was proven, I went to work as a writer for DJ Drama and Generation Now. Since then I’ve done countless shows and a tour, as well as headline a few of my own shows in Atlanta! What i am most proud of is that I trusted the process and remained a good person through all the label issues. We had superstar level talent that I consider family til this day and they helped me elevate in the A. The collaborations were amazing so Shoutout the whole family, DC Young Fly, Lil Silk, Navv Greene, Mykko Montanna, Terrio, E Duchess, Moneybag Mafia, Malik Marco, Slick etc.!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta has depth. Im a vegetarian so we’d go to Murphy avenue to eat at WTF truck (wonderful tasting food) or Tassilis In The Raw cafe! Other than that, either the Walker Street Studios or Blue Flame lol
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family deserves this shoutout because without them I would have lost my purpose a long time ago, especially my moms. But more specifically, this goes to my big brother Slick and my nephew Zechariah! I wear many hats from student, to teacher, to historian to activist… but the most important role to me is brother/UNCLE and I have my nephew to thank for that. The day he was born made me look at life differently. Due to where we’re from and the tough conditions of NC, it’s easy to lose hope through the struggles. After losing our father it seemed inevitable, but my stepfather STEPPED IN AND STEPPED UP, which I could never love him enough for. This drew us closer as a family and made me just want to be the best version of myself that he can look up to and come to for, and about, anything! Pushing me to do whatever it is in my power to set an example, make him proud and inspire him to always strive for greatness and personal success!
