We had the good fortune of connecting with phoenix broom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi phoenix, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
My success was attributed to a couple things. The main thing being having faith in God and lots and lots of prayer.
Secondly I made sure I dedicated everyday to doing something for my business. The way I see it everyday you don’t learn or do something for your business is a day wasted. I can’t stress enough that you can’t expect your business to flourish if you don’t do things that will elicit results EVERYDAY. Whether that is working or your website, working on your marketing, your brand, your accounting procedures, reading up on business laws that may or may not affect your business, registering your business and the list goes on. There is so many steps to being successful and it’s more than lucking up and going viral so it’s best to get a head start.
That brings me to my last point. Being an entrepreneur showed me that you will always have to make risk so the sooner you rip the band-aid off the better. Every entrepreneur has their speed bumps or Achilles heel. Mines at the time was startup capital-or so I thought. I soon realized that this is a minute issue that is solvable and instead of procrastinating and pushing back my dreams until I acquire said capital I decided I would find a solution. So I promised to myself that I will never let an issue slow me down. So the habit I formed is to always tackle issues head on. Being an entrepreneur is being a problem solver so if you can’t solve the problems within your business how do you expect to solve problems for your clients. This was such a character building moment for me and I feel the sooner entrepreneurs grasp that concept the better off their business will be.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a passionate editorial fashion and portrait photographer that captures unique concepts with my unique signature style. I built PhoenixJanae off of the premise of breaking barriers of photography by capturing poignant and profound moments with a creative twist. I pride myself on offering not only exceptional service but a personalized experience for every client.
Photography definitely made me very familiar with rejection, cancellations and dead-in inquiries. At first this was a struggle that weighed very heavily on me but I began to realize that these things might seem like failure but they are just bringing you one step closer to success. Despite photography being a tough business to succeed in, deciding on a career in photography was the easiest choice I have ever made when I decided to walk on faith, quit my job and pursue photography full-time. I never looked back.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For activities we would partake in nature whether it’s a picnic, a day trip to Tybee island, trekking through Providence Canyon or enjoying the beautiful wonders of Roswell Mill Waterfall.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can write a whole book with the names of people who have impacted my business and I in some way shape or form. However, the people that I feel deserve an honorable mention for their love, support and motivation would have to be God as well as my 5 close friends ; My mother and her endless amount of support and wisdom, Ariel Wright and her positive attitude, resourcefulness and willingness to push me to be my best self, Hannah Hosley and her timely advice and just being an inspiration in general, Erin Davis and her ability to hold my hand through the scary and unknown territory of entrepreneurship and last but not least Nyalah Porter for supporting so willingly and diligently.
