We had the good fortune of connecting with Phillip Sizemore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phillip, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Intentionally placing myself in situations or environments that make me uncomfortable. I realize the only time I’m growing is when I’m stepping out of my comfort zone.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My Professional Career has like most been a journey! You start somewhere and then it’s our own individual Choice as to what we allow to set us apart. Some things come naturally others are skills that you learn to modify and build upon.
The Mortgage Industry has been very good to me. I at some point throughout my career have been exposed to just about every aspect of our business. It’s not always been easy. In this life you will fall and you will fail. It’s not as important as to how you fall as it is in the manner that you get back up. I refer to it as falling forward. Economically we are in one of those cycles now. This business is very cyclic. You learn when to scale up and then when to scale back.
When I’m asked what set’s me apart from other Leaders I would have to say it’s very simplistic. I simply care about my Team! They know that! We are nothing without a strong Team around us. I along with our Team here at Envoy Mortgage have one Mission and that is to simply “Improve Lives”! Leaders are individuals that people connect with and follow because of just simply being transparent. When my Team wins… We all win! So “Others” is just one descriptive that comes to mind. That mentality starts with our Team and then flows over to our clients. Change a life …. change a world!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I would definitely make sure they saw our beautiful office here at Firmspace in the heart of Buckhead’s Financial District. I’m a member of the Buckhead Club and also serve on the Membership Committee… so I’m sure we would visit the Club several times possibly for breakfast or an event that may be happening there during their stay.
From a dining perspective…. Wow their trip would not be complete without a visit to two of my favorite spots for dining and drinks. First (and most likely several other times as well) the top of my list would be Little Alley in Buckhead. The place and atmosphere is second to none! Possibly a dining experience at Houstons and Bistro Nikko.
If the friend was here during baseball season we would definitely have to take an Atlanta Braves game in! If it’s the NFL season the stars would have to line up perfectly for a Tampa Bay (Tom Brady) vs The Falcons! And yes I’m sorry… but I would definitely be pulling for Brady given the fact I’m a dire hard fan!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Actually I have two Critical Leaders and Author’s that have spoken greatly into my life and challenge me to keep growing and keep setting the example. Also generally not to be willing to step outside of the “General Boundaries” that are predetermined to be successful.
Those Authors and Books are
1. John C. Maxwell “The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership”
2. Simon Sinek “The Infinite Game”
