We had the good fortune of connecting with Olivia-Sade Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Olivia-Sade, why did you pursue a creative career?
Being creative is something that’s always been apart of who I am. From years of dancing, enrolling in every art and fashion class my high school offered to now creative directing (@creather.online on Instagram) and pursuing my own brand (@oliviasade.co on Instagram), it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do.

There’s magic behind bringing something that you’ve wrote down, planned and invested in to life for others to see and enjoy. Through my projects, I’m able to help other creators and small businesses be able to create something that speaks to their audience and leaves them feeling inspired. It’s been a difficult road finding myself and determining what I really wanted to do with my life, which most go through everyday. After dropping out of college and taking a chance on myself, I’ve never looked back and I love what I do today..

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The process behind creative direction is the most exciting part aside from shoot day! As I document the process on my Youtube channel for others to see, it’s something about taking thoughts from your notebook, and slowly watching it come to life that is magical! Creative direction never crossed my mind as something to pursue until I had noticed the feedback my personal and business projects received and the way it inspired others. It felt so natural and I knew that it was something I wanted to pursue as a business venture.

To get to where I am today, it’s been a journey to say the least. Graduating from high school, the stigma of not attending college had been the primary factor of me even attending college (twice!). When in college, it always felt that I had been neglecting my creative side and pursuing something I thought I had to do. It was hard, especially when it’s something that at the time was taboo for society and my parents. Once deciding that college wasn’t for me, I began to really connect with other New York creatives, (Taj @tajwop, Manza @therealmanza to say a few) and discovered that I can pursue my dreams independently through my own ventures. It was the start of how I got here. I want others to know to chase your dreams! Be inspired to create, chase your dreams even if they don’t fit within societal norms, and take a chance on yourself! I wish someone had told me that.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
New York (especially summers) are timeless! Whenever I’m feeling inspired, I always take a trip to Washington Square Park with my friends and admire all that takes place – the music, the people, the fashion. It’s amazing. Close by, there’s the best gelato spot (Amourino) I cannot stop eating with the best taco spot (El Dorado) in close range. If you’re vegan, JA JA JA is to die for!

I can go on and on about food, but shopping is the best too! I always love stopping in at 2ND Street (a luxury consignment store) for all the best finds to add to my closet, even Tired Thrift in Brooklyn and LAAMS in LES (Lower Eastside) has the best additions. It’s safe to say, I’d be the best tour guide if you’re ever looking for a good time in New York!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

This journey certainly wasn’t easy, but I definitely would love to acknowledge my friends, family and most of all, those who follow and support me everyday. Growing up, my parents never told me what I couldn’t be and always encouraged me to shoot for the stars. My father has always had a hustler mentality, following his passions through his music and art where my mother is the hard-worker and always strive to be better than who she was yesterday. With my circle, I love surrounding myself with others who inspire me to keep going and to take risks! My best friend (Jaida),  partner (Isaam) and sister (Amor) have always been on the sidelines cheering me on, even on days where it feels overwhelming to see success and I’ve achieved so many milestones with their support (this year, I bought my first car!). Even during quarantine, my audience on social media grew tremendously and has allowed me to have a platform to grow as a creative expressing myself through my various ventures.
