We had the good fortune of connecting with Octavia Phillips and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Octavia, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
The end goal of everything that I have started and created is freedom. Time freedom, financial freedom, and location freedom. Freedom to spend as much time with my family as I please. Freedom to choose who is and isn’t allowed in my space. Freedom to do as I please. On this path to freedom, I am strategizing how to build wealth not only for me but for generations after me. Generational wealth that will be taught from one person to the next. Wealth that will be acquired and taught to others so no one will feel caught up in this race to true freedom.

By the end of my career, I pray that I will acquire wealth to the point that freedom is no longer a factor to be compromised. Professionally, I would love to be retired before the age of 45 as I change my way of thinking. Delayed gratification will improve my way of thinking, my self-control, and will help me to achieve what we all yearn for: freedom. I pray that my decisions exemplify discipline and ambition as I continue to grow on my journey. I will continue to work extremely hard to set the foundation for my offspring as I stay focused on always being open to learning so that I can teach those around me. I pray that one day I am able to teach others the skills needed to survive and thrive mentally, spiritually, and financially.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a nurse of 4 years. I am currently a travel nurse located in Atlanta, GA. I relocated near Atlanta back in 2020 in hopes of finally thriving. I am originally from Savannah, GA in which I felt like my success was stagnant. I was too comfortable with life. I had to step out on faith and trust in God on what my next plan would be. The only way I got to where I am today is faith in God. It wasn’t easy but of course we always expect to be easy. However, on my journey of relocating, I continuously sung the song “It Wasn’t Easy” by Cece Winans as this was my true testimony. It wasn’t easy but it was worth it. I overcame all of my challenges by trusting in God and having faith in both God and myself. I knew if I stay focused and delayed the partying and extracurricular activities, I would achieve my goals over time.
The lessons I’ve learned along the way are to focus in on your journey and your journey only. Everyone else’s journey is not yours. Tunnel vision is the key to success.
I want the world to know that perseverance, ambition, discipline, and delayed gratification will help you to achieve all of the long-term goals that we all yearn for. Only true way to freedom is to stay focused and build your foundation while letting no one distract you from your goals. On my journey to true freedom, I will always be honest and true so I can show others that it is possible to achieve your dreams as long as you put God first in your life. My brand will always show the honest truth about the ups and downs on my journey. It will also show others that look like me that we all deserve luxury so why not start with us? You can get anywhere as long as you have faith in God and yourself.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area, the first place I would take them is to brunch in or around Atlanta. A couple places I would recommend is “The Real Milk & Honey” located in College Park or “The Milk & Honey” located in Decatur. After brunch, my friend and I would head over to a waterfall to enjoy the scenery and nature up in North GA. A few waterfalls I would recommend is Vickery Creek Falls, Helton Creek Falls, and Blue Hole Falls. Afterwards, we would head home to freshen up, rest, and prepare for dinner. For dinner, I would take my friend to Juicy Crab. I love seafood as I’m from “down by the water” (Savannah). The seafood here is nothing like the seafood back home but it will suffice. The next day we would probably visit Stone Mountain as that is the next thing I would love to do up this way. I love nature so being outside does some justice for my soul.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes! I would definitely like to give a shoutout to God first and foremost. Secondly I would like to shoutout everyone that has ever taught me life lessons from my grandmother, to my mother, to my teachers as I grew up. I would also like to shout my life partner and my daughter whom has both been nothing but supportive since day one. Last but not least, I must shoutout the @Wealthsquad on IG & Twitter. Since I found this group in 2021, I have been motivated from day one. Every piece of information they give out has helped me achieve multiple goals in life.
