We had the good fortune of connecting with Noah Jensen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Noah, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
I feel like people look at the music industry and creative industries in general like they aren’t real careers and that people just do what they do because they love it. Making music costs money! Sometimes lots of it. Artists are paying to record their music, get it mixed, get session musicians, etc. As a musician you’ve got to maintain your instruments. You have to spend gas money to drive to gigs, and when you’re getting started, your profit margins are probably going to be slim to none. Producers have to pay for gear, plugins, sounds, etc. Even releasing your music costs money. Being a musician, producer, and engineer, I’m very aware of the fact that people have and will try to take advantage of me. If you’re really gonna do it, you’ve got to treat it like your job. You need to know the industry, stand on your business, and work really hard to succeed. Nobody is going to come and save you or lead you by the hand.
The other thing, especially working as a professional musician, is you have to understand that if you call somebody to fill in for a gig you can’t make, it very well could be your last gig with that band/artist. They may rock with the substitute player more than you, and that’s a hard pill to swallow. It sounds harsh, but that’s business. I’ve been on both sides of it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I think i’m most excited for the things that are coming next. I’m proud to say i’ve got a handful of things in the works. I’m particularly proud because i’ve been working towards all these things for so long, and I can finally see them coming to fruition. It certainly hasn’t been easy, as i’ve worked for years and years for everything I’ve got, as well as every opportunity i’ve been blessed with.
Here’s what I’ve learned so far in almost 26 years of being on this earth. Work harder than everyone else every single day, strive to be the best you can be and somebody you can be proud of, be honest in everything you do, uphold the commitments you make to yourself and others, and don’t settle for less because it’s easy. Finally, find something you love, whether its a hobby, sport, activity, etc. Attack that thing with intensity, and try to become the absolute best at it.
My brand is me, Noah Jensen. Everything I just specified are things that I strive to achieve every single day. My brand reflects those things.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta, GA is my favorite city in the world. I’ve been to many incredible places, and i’ll still choose ATL. It’s my home, and it always feels that way, regardless of where i’ve been or where i’m going. There’s something for everyone. I’m sure you’ll find something that suits you.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Where i’ve gotten to has certainly not been a solo endeavor. I’d be remiss if I didn’t recognize my family, fiancee, and the people in my circle who are close to me. They’re the ones that work around my crazy schedule, come to shows, encourage me to be my best, and don’t shut down my desire to take risks, reach my goals, and do what I love. If you’re reading this, you know who you are. I’m blessed and very grateful.
