We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Bechill and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicole, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Did you know that being in a band (or being any kind of artist actually) you really need to define your work/life boundaries firmly. I am not saying we in Shehehe have done that. We try to enrich our lives in other ways but there is a also this drive that keeps us pretty dedicated to crafting our music, touring and recording and that can be all consuming. Although I love making and listening to music (particualy music that is on the heavier side) I actually find it helpful to be in quiet spaces during my off time. I enjoy walking, hiking, meditation and art galleries. As a group I wouldn’t say we have completely figured out the balance but I do feel lucky to be able to part of this create force that rolls on, its never boring and I’m usually always working on something. My best advice for others is to really carve out time to rest, for me its a work in progress but the intention is very much there.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Get ready to dive into the whirlwind of the power-pop-meets-punk trio Shehehe, the band that’s been tearing up stages since their inception in 2011. Hailing from the vibrant musical scene of Athens, Georgia, Shehehe is the unwavering commitment to the sheer power of music. Members Nicole Bechill (bass and vocals), Jason Fusco (drums and vocals), and Noelle Shuck (guitar and vocals), each bring a distinct style and musical background to the group, resulting in a sound that is unique and somehow familiar all at once.

Shehehe’s sonic onslaught fuses the ferocity of punk with the unrelenting drive of hard rock, creating a sound that’s as infectious as it is irresistible. With blistering guitar riffs, thunderous rhythms, and anthemic choruses, Shehehe’s music invites its audience to dance and sing along as if no one is watching.

With a string of EPs, albums, and even a few splits under their belt, including the acclaimed “Rock & Roll Queen,” and the riotous follow-up “Endless Summer,” Shehehe has firmly established themselves as one of the most exciting and hard working bands in the underground punk scene. Now, with their upcoming album Namedroppers set to, well, drop, Shehehe is poised to unleash their most electrifying collection of songs yet, promising an honest, autobiographical and cathartic ride. Namedroppers is a collection of songs about, and therefore inspired by, people; our future life partners, folks from our youth and subsequent struggles with adulthood, the musical heroes that we will miss when they’re gone, the radio DJs that play our favorite songs as if just for us, and those who make the music that eternally affect us all.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I’m in Atlanta it’s usually to go to a show at Bogg’s Social and Supply, the 529 or star bar. I can’t pass the awesome vegan food in ATL, I love Soul Vegetarian and highly recommend trying anything on their menu.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shehehe hails from the vibrant musical scene of Athens, Georgia and we have and continue to be inspired by the musical community here in Athens, past and present. I like to think that we embody the DIY ethos that I have been witnessing since I first started paying attention to music, with out all ages venue, zines of the 90’s I wouldn’t be here. In my early 20’s I met folks that fused advocacy, music and fun and it blew me away. Shehehe is influenced by bands like The Ramones, Cheap Trick, X, Pylon and Bikini Kill but there are so many more. I love all the regional bands we have had the privilege to play with over the years such as Spray Tan, Seagulls, Hunger Anthem, Karbomb, Vincus, Naw, Totally Slow and Mean Queen and a thousand more. I know all their lyrics and feel a lovely sense of nostalgia like to other when seeing bands we play with regulary preform.
