We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Mathurin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I believe that when you are trying to achieve anything in life you are taking a risk. Wether it’s big or small, you have no idea what tomorrow promises, so you have to trust your process and have faith that it will work. The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward. But also, the more preparation, the less fear you will have facing adversity. I risk my whole full time schooling and job to pursue barbering full time. My goal was to become one of the best, and I could only accomplish that with consistent work ethic, strong will, and nourishing my passion for the industry. So I made sure to check all my boxes, and sure enough, my hard work paid off.

What should our readers know about your business?
TrippyCutZ started back in May 2020. I decided to take a leap of faith towards my passion for art and cutting hair because my vision for the future of this business starting getting clearer. I gained confidence through prayer, manifestation, preparation, and practice in order to face any challenges that may come with a business. I made sure to have a mentor to guide me through decision making, used my resources to gain knowledge about the industry and went after success. My brand TrippyCutZ is all about consistency, hard work, and creativity.. I’m from Haiti, a small island in the Caribbean, where hope and opportunities are missing for the youth. My goal is to be able to go back and create more for the youth, and give them something positive to look forward to in life.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Atlanta is one of the most visited cities lately and is surely equipped with many beautiful and fun spots. I love to eat and also try new food, so I go to a lot of different restaurants but I would suggest Slutty Vegan, Maggiano’s, Chef Kodak, Rock Steady, 26 Thai and Sushi Bar, Benihana, brunch at the Hive Buckhead etc.. For activities, I like bowlero, Rooftop at Ponce, Top Golf, Andrettis, walking down the ATL belt line. If you like to go out, places like Red Martini, 1145, Suite Lounge, Edgewood, etc…

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I want to thank God for putting me in this position. I want to send a huge shoutout to my parents for raising me the way they did, they let it be known that they prefer that I continue my schooling but they respect and help my decision to pursue my dreams. Huge Shoutout to my girlfriend Kiki for always believing in me since day 1, for 5 years now, and always pushing me to be and stay at my best. Also, big shoutout to my mentor, my close friends, my haitian family back home, and my supporters all over the world. None of this would be possible without any of you.
