We had the good fortune of connecting with Ngo Okechukwu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ngo, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
-My favorite quote is – Only the wise man, only he whose thoughts are controlled and purified, makes the winds and the storms of the soul obey him by James Allen. But I would recite it to myself as, Only the wise woman, only she whose thoughts are controlled and purified, makes the winds and the storms of the soul obey her. -What it means for me is to take control and purify your mind so that your outer world will also be purified and then you become the alchemist of your own life. Just imagine if the whole world did this, it would be a beautiful site to see. -I like that it’s a way of reminding me that I’m in control of every part of my journey.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been drawing since high school, then I turned to paint, then pastels. What I draw is what I see inside my mind, like streaks of light and flashes of beautiful lines. I also like to free-hand draw which means it can turn out to be anything, a collage of lines that tells a whole story, lines to take on a new life. I’m excited to combine and share my art through the prints in my collections, you’ll see much more of this in my next line. The creations come pretty easily. The challenge I face is that I have such a large flow of creativity such as art, fashion, and storytelling and it can be overwhelming because I want to produce them all. So when they come I now have a sketchbook, drawing pad, and journal by my side so I can set them free in hopes of sharing them all someday. The lesson I’ve learned is the longer you stay at it the better you get. That motivates me at times I feel like giving up. I want to let the world know that in this endless universe, in our big solar system, on this tiny blue planet, here we all are together. Different color trees, plants, flowers, faces, and races, and we are all here together. That makes me love you. And because I love you, I am so proud to share the gifts that I have with the world. My brand is about expanding love to as many people as I can. No matter who you are I’m thankful we are on the journey together.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I recently moved from Brooklyn New York to Atlanta Georgia. We would have to wing it because I’m new here myself and I’m not here for long before heading to the West Coat then to travel around Africa. This life, this planet is your oyster, fun is where you are.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother is who deserves the credit. She didn’t know that the day she bought that sewing machine home would shift my life forever. She liked to buy all kinds of baking machines, juicers, and things and letting them sit in boxes, after trying them once or twice. So I asked if she could teach me how to use the sewing machine. I remember me and her sitting on a bench as she taught me how to thread the needle. When I did it on the first try, she told me I was good and that soon I’ll be making her clothes. She lit me up inside and before you know it I was designing and selling denim skirts made from recycled jeans. She always tried different things, cake decorating, candle making, gardening, you name it. I like that she knew we all are born with gifts and the best way to find them is by trying new things. And I found my gift through her.
