We had the good fortune of connecting with Nengi Offurum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nengi, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Black Women Owned Inc. (or BWO for short) was created with Black women in mind. The founder, Nengi Offurum, who is a Black woman experienced challenges like lack of mentorship, funding and networking opportunities. She created BWO to connect several Black female-led businesses and raise social and economic awareness on the discourse of buying Black and support Black women.
BWO helps to increase the visibility of Black female-led businesses.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Before starting Black Women Owned Inc., I was craving for a safe space that had more people like me who are ambitious, empathetic and supportive. It was not easy growing BWO from zero supporters, but what kept me going was the passion I had for supporting people.
I have learned that people who align with your values and resonate with you will support your journey. While growing BWO, people from different walks of life (every race and gender) joined the BWO community to extend their support for Black women while we empowered each other. For this reason, I have considered BWO a community for all, a safe space where everyone who is kind, empathetic and supportive are welcome.
