We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie D. Joseph and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie D., why did you pursue a creative career?
To be honest, I did not choose a creative career. It chose me. I have always been passionate about people and ensuring everyone around me is having a pleasant day and doing fine mentally. My passion has been people. I have always been creative. I remember around the age of nine or ten, I drewsomething and entered it in a contest, and my drawing was the winning piece. At age nine, I entered a singing competition. I wrote my own song and chose my own clothes. I placed second!I love designing cakes. I love creating my own fashionable looks. I remember my last semester in college, I was considering a career in law enforcement but somehow, I started my own event planning company six months after graduation. That iswhy I say I didn’t choose a creative career; it chose me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Hi everyone, my name is Natalie D. Joseph. I was born and raised on the beautiful island called Grenada. I am a mother, entrepreneur, sister & daughter. I am an event designer & planner located in Charlotte, NC. When people ask what I do, I always reply with “getting the party started.” I am not a DJ, but I create the atmosphere. Whenever you walk into an event, the ambiance sets the tone or mood for the rest of the occasion. I spend my time envisioning what the client wants to experience; to create a design to fit their vision. What sets me apart from others is my ability to listen to the client and produce what he/she wants and not what I think would be best for the client. I will make suggestions, but it is the ultimate choice of the client. I pay close attention to details. I wow my clients with the small things they might mention briefly.

I am most proud of the ability to do exactly what I love to do every day. It was not an easy process and still not and easy process, but I love my journey and the experiences along the way. I am fully licensed which was by choice. In my industry, you do not need to be licensed but being licensed has taken me through some amazing doors. My journey has been very pleasant because I am a people person. The main thing that helpsmy business grow is referrals and I am forever grateful that people trust me with some of the most important days of their life. It is an honor when someone calls or emails me andmentions that they were referred to me. The biggest lesson that I have learned along the way is to trust in myself. I would like the world to know that my brand represents me. I give a hundred percent all the time. I am reliable, trustworthy, and dedicated to getting the job done. At Natalie J Couture Events we explore your inner creativity.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh wow! If one of my friends comes to visit me in Charlotte, NC it is going to be a very adventurous weekend. On Friday evening we will go eat at a Caribbean or steak restaurant to eat then go back to the house to chat. I want to hear everything he/she is doing, their plans, and offer my assistance. On Saturday we will pack a bag and head to one of the waterfalls for a hike and picnic. We will relax and enjoy nature and soak in everything around us. Then Saturday night we will go dancing and enjoy some adult beverages. On Sunday, I will take him/her to visit my parents because my parents would want to see anyone of my friends because I am so close to my friends we are like siblings. If my parent is not available, I will cook a big breakfast follow with a big dinner, play cards, old talk, and sip on beers.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shoutout to my kids Nathan & Vernon. My oldest Nathan has really motived me to keep going and never give up until its completed. Seeing his drive, determination, and the things he has already accomplished is so refreshing. My youngest Vernon is so sweet. I take him to some of my shoots. Sometimes, I will be so tired, and he will encourage me and tell me how proud he is of me. He is just a sweetheart. Knowing how much those boys look up to me gives me that extra drive to keep going and be a better person to society.
