We had the good fortune of connecting with Naomi The Goddess and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Naomi, what role has risk played in your life or career?
In life, we tend to think that everything moves so slowly. Always hoping to get older or waiting for the next moment to reveal itself to us. Never truly basking in the moment that lies right before our eyes. Taking the risks needed in the moment can be difficult but when God gives you the vision it will be a shame not to take it. Everyday is a new lesson a new way of overcoming old struggles and creating strategies for success. Risk and Failure are pivotal tools for finding your purpose in your work and figuring out what works best for you. There is no one way to get to the goal but there is a specific way that works in harmony just for you. Isn’t that spectacular?
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m just a country girl from the city of New Orleans. I gained a lot of my will to create and sing from my roots. I remember singing Motown and Gospel in my maw maws living room, dancing until I couldn’t anymore. I loved watching how much love my family got out of singing and moving their feet. They did it whether they were happy or sad and it always inspired me. As a girl, I would sing my little heart out and I remember my mother saying “You need to keep practicing honey, your singing out your nose” I never knew what that meant but nether the less I didn’t give up. Not to please her but to heal and express myself. I found myself singing more and more after Hurrican Katrina. We moved to Georgia, surrounded by unknown faces and I felt alone. So I sang every day and every night, it brought me peace. When I met T.R.3 I was still pretty shy but one day he asked me to sing something small for him and things haven’t been the same since. I started recording music based on how I was feeling at the time and it changed my life. It even gave me opportunities to work with amazing artists like Londrelle and Hadiya George. I told myself that I can only write what I feel and still till this day that rings true. If I could tell the world one thing it would be that life is too short not to use your gift. No matter where that might lead you’ll always end up in a place you never imagined could exist. It’s not easy to be vulnerable with others but it truly makes you stronger and I’d say it’s worth it.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is a pretty big city with much to experience but I enjoy the silence and beauty you find outside of it. Tallulah Falls changed my perspective of life it even cleared my mind and rejuvenated me to keep going. I always call that land a Mother, nurturing, and loving. It’s beautiful. But, when it comes to food I’ll always suggest a road trip to New Orleans for some of my maw maws home cooking. There’s just nothing else like it.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to start by acknowledging The Divine, for giving me the opportunity to be here long enough to even tell this story. Secondly, my mother her strength has given so much passion and confidence in my stride. She taught me what it meant to be a royal mentally and spiritually and how to never give up. Especially if you know your purpose. Lastly, I’d like to thank my partner in life, he’s always been my rock always rooting me on when even I didn’t have the strength to do so myself. He’s truly my best friend and wouldn’t change that for the world. Asé
