Meet Nancy Woods | Owner, Nancy’s Flower Truck

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Woods and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nancy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and I’ve owned other businesses in the past. I’m in my 70s now and into my retirement years doing things I enjoy and spending time with my family. I grew up in a farm, so I love spending time at my daughter’s farm in Florida and helping out with the animals and plants. A couple of years ago, my daughter began experimenting with a variety of flowers and had excellent results. This naturally led our family to think about how wonderful it would be if we could help spread joy and happiness in our communities through those gorgeous blooms. That’s when that entrepreneurial spirit kicked right back in and we explored various business models and sales channels for her to sell her flowers. At first, I was simply sharing my experiences and helping my daughter get her own business off the ground; but it didn’t take long for me to ask why not start my own flower business in Atlanta? Now, at my age, there were certainly many factors to consider but I am fortunate to still have a lot of energy and be in good health, so I was excited to take that leap of faith once again. For me, it came down to Fit and Purpose. The business is a great fit because it involves working with flowers, which I’ve always loved, it gives me a creative outlet and I have a good amount of flexibility with the schedule and events I chose to do. Starting this business also became a source of newfound purpose, which for me, is very important for getting the most out of life, especially at my age. If you’re thinking about starting a business, and it’s something that makes you happy, don’t let age stop you. Go for it!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Nancy’s Flower Truck blossomed from the simple idea that flowers have the power to brighten our days and help spread love and happiness to all. We live in very difficult times and with seemingly increasing divisiveness. Couple that with today’s high-tech and fast paced lifestyle and it all takes a toll on our mood, how we treat each other and our overall health. In these hectic times, we need flowers more than ever. Flowers can not only beautify a space but they have also been scientifically proven to improve workplace productivity. Research also shows that flowers reduce stress, trigger happiness and improve both the enjoyment of life as well as our feelings of satisfaction with our lives. It’s really quite remarkable the power that giving and receiving flowers has on spreading love and kindness. And the amazing thing is that the effect is exponential, and as people “petal it forward”, it builds momentum resulting in improving the lives of countless others. Our goal is for every guest to leave not only with a beautiful handcrafted bouquet but also with a beautiful smile on their face. We use our cute little vintage truck to bring to you a fun, memorable, personalized and truly unique flower shopping experience to help spread love and brighten the day
for you or someone you love.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta is such a fun a diverse city with so much to see and experience. Here is what would be on our itinerary:
We would of course start by smelling the flowers at the Atlanta Botanical Garden, then picnicking at Piedmont park; admiring the beautiful sea life at the Georgia Aquarium; strolling through Centennial Olympic Park; sampling sodas from all over the world at the World of Coca Cola; soaking up some art at the High; catching a show at the Fox; immersing ourselves with the sounds of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; hiking to the top of Stone Mountain; sharing some tapas at Barcelona Wine Bar in Inman Park; having afternoon tea at the Waldorf Astoria, hanging out at Atlanta rooftops for drinks, food and fun including Palo Santo in West Midtown, Ponce City Market and the iconic Hotel Clermont followed by dinner and yummy desserts at Tiny Lou’s; licking our fingers after some Fat Matt’s BBQ; doing the chop at a Braves game; sharing a pizza but not sharing the gelato at Antico; shooting the hooch; tasting some wine (ok, a lot of wine) at our wonderful North Georgia wineries like Montaluce, Wolf Mountain, Three Sisters, Chateau Elan and Yonah Mountain
How’s that for the first half of the trip? 😉
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Nancy’s Flower Truck would not be possible without the love and support of my son Jose Izaguirre, my daughter Carmen Raterman, owner of Monarch Farms, Dade City, FL and my super helpers and grandchildren Natalie, Sophia, Alexandra, Caroline, Ava and Nico. I am also extremely grateful to the event organizers at the cities of Suwanee, Duluth, Sugar Hill as well as the wonderful folks at North American Properties and the Avalon for giving us the opportunity to bring our little truck filled to the brim with beautiful fresh seasonal flowers to the people of Atlanta.
