We had the good fortune of connecting with Nafeesah Leverett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nafeesah, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Releasing the hurt and trauma that I carried for so many years and starting my healing to finding peace and learning to love myself again.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
2017 was one of the most challenging seasons in my life. I was only a few months from graduating with my bachelor’s degree but was contemplating suicide and severely depressed. I worked as a credit/collections specialist, and just left a physically abusive relationship, trying to mask all my emotions. Mentally and Spiritually I was exhausted and felt like God has given up on me. So I decided I was going to take my life to escape the pain because that appeared to be easier, but God had other plans for me. After that dark night, I started therapy and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. However, God was just getting started. In the midst of my storms, I’ve been asking God for a fresh start, and He gave me just that. During this season, God was teaching me that I needed to stop putting people, places, and things before him. Through my hardship, God told me I had to encourage and inspire other women. My therapist challenged me to share my story and I did, but I had no idea what was next. During my quiet time with God, I stumbled across this scripture. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29 NIV. This is how Build Her Up was formed and this is where my story of healing, inspiring, and empowering women began.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was in town we will visit Butcher 360 for Korean BBQ and head to TOP Golf for drinks and some fun. I don’t golf, but it is so fun to try.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to Shoutout my community from Family (Mom, Sister, Cousins, Godparents, and GodSisters) to Friends (my Girls) and my Sisters in Business (God and Goals Mastermind), my Coach Crystal Perkins, mentors and friends Chamel Evans and Lucretia Thomas, and my Werk U Sisters. These people have supported me during my journey through life and business, and I don’t know where I would be without them.
