We had the good fortune of connecting with Nadine Duncan, EdD and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nadine, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I don’t think I realized the power of my intrinsic motivation until I was an adult. I currently live in Atlanta, Georgia but I grew up in Hillside, New Jersey. My family is from Trinidad, so I grew up in a Caribbean-American household. I think that my upbringing set the foundation for excellence being the norm. I am the kind of person that can recognize that I may not have all the answers, or do things as well as I would like the first time, but the go-getter mindset that was instilled in me is what keeps me motivated to create new things, problem solve, etc.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It was really important for me to create a safe and resourceful space for Black women to explore international travel. We are each other’s best resource when it comes to understanding the nuances of travel as it relates to Black women. I started writing travel guides because I wanted to start building towards creating that space. Currently we have 10 points of engagement so that members can access resources and information in whatever modality that works best.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would definitely go to Anansi Cocktail Lounge for drinks, do a little shopping at the Pink Zebra Boutique, have dinner at Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen, ride bikes on the Beltline, and have a Sunday picnic at Piedmont Park…
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
