We had the good fortune of connecting with Myles Powell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Myles, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The unrelenting hustle. The food industry is a tough place to be in. And there have been quite a number of ups and downs throughout the journey. Especially downs. But each failure just served as more motivation. And my desire to achieve greatness always overpowers fear or doubt.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Born from a family of foodies and entrepreneurs, Myles Powell has always had a love for food and a proclivity for hustle. Raised in an environment where everyone worked,
Myles found that his best moments of family time were spent gathered around for
daily meals. The stars of the show were always comfort food—collard greens, fried
chicken and, of course, mac and cheese.
While pursuing a career in engineering, Myles nurtured his passion for food by
experimenting with new recipes inspired by the foods of his childhood. Well, when
the food is that good, word gets around fast! Soon, Myles found himself on Food
Network’s America’s Best Cook. That stint sealed the deal for Myles, who decided
that food would play a bigger role in his life than just sustenance and a hobby.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oohs and Ahs. Its a soul food spot in DC. As a matter of fact, it may have been one of the first spots went to eat when I moved to DC in 2015. It reminded me of cookouts growing up and that nostalgia, coupled with the great food, makes this a top destination for me.
Im not much of a tourist kind of guy. All of my recommendations circle around food. BUT I do highly recommend the African American Heritage museum. It’s incredible. Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Can I say everybody who has believed in me? Ha. Along this ride I have had tremendous support from my family, my gf, my friends, and folks in my network who have continued to root for me. It’s really encouraging and making all of them proud is one of my goals.
